As long as I clean them regularly I shouldn't have to go back and polish them. The tips on my CS I polished once and I clean them often enough and those still look great.

Did some work on the Silverado.
Needed a new battery. Its been slowly dying, and turning over really slow when its gotten really cold out. Seems to take a long time to bring it back to a good charge, so its been on a battery maintainer on colder nights. Decided to spring for a new one, since this week is supposed to be bitter cold out.
Got an Optima yellow top from Advance Auto and put it in, along with some new side terminal screws.
Voltage measures a lot more stable now.
Also took some time to shim my 2M antenna, so now it sits vertical, instead of sitting on the slope of the fender.
Re-organized some of the tool box, checked that everything in the bed was tied down and not sliding around.
Hope to get an oil change in, though the weather looks less than stellar for tomorrow. Might run out in a bit and get it done tonight before this nasty cold front moves in with the subzero temps and snow tomorrow.

Default Two Days of Bonneville

I'm going to go a bit overboard, and start with 'yesterday'. My green Bonneville (same as in my signature) lost its tensioner pulley on the way to work. In the 45 minutes I waited for AAA to show, I attached the passenger side replacement mirror I got thru eBay. It was cold yesterday morning, but I was bored waiting for the hookup. Today, I pulled a used idler pulley off the replacement engine I have in storage (for when this one blows), and mounted it on the car, reusing the serpentine belt. It doesn't look like it got too abused by the failed pulley. Didn't have time to put the replacement power door lock module (also from another eBay seller) in... not sure yet how to do it. FSM was somewhat cryptic about the procedure... and I did look at that today. I also have a parasitic draw which is intermittent; last night it bit again and I had a dead battery when I went to move the car into the driveway to work on it. Soon I'll do the ammeter/fuse pull shuffle, but not sure how to tell if or when the intermittent parasitic drain is biting, except when I come back to a dead battery.

Oil change...done.
When I got a good picture of the mess that is headed our way tomorrow morning, I had to get it done tonight. 4-6" dropped on us in gusty 50mph winds with temperatures falling like a lead rock. Blizzards likely... yeah. Glad I don't work tomorrow morning.

6 Quarts Mobil 1 synthetic and a Pure One filter. Reset the oil life reminder. Now I can sit back and enjoy an adult beverage or two and curl up in the house tomorrow.

Yeah, the yellow top is nice. They had an online deal going, 20% off everything, plus $50 off the next order of $100 or more. They had it at my local store, so I just ordered it online and picked it up. They were busy, so I just came home and put it in myself. Certainly weighs a lot more than the one I pulled out of there. Now at least I have the top posts to wire in some of the aftermarket stuff.

Fixed the oil leak on the Bonneville. The oil pressure switch was bad. Somehow the plastic part became unsecured from the copper base area. Oil was coming through the switch and leaking out of the plug area, not what I expected. When I got it out I was able to spin the plastic part in a complete circle on the base, obviously a failure.

Replaced it with an OE Delco switch. Looks to be a much better constructed part than the BWD I took off of the car.

Now all I gotta replace is the coolant elbows since the o-rings on those seem to have failed.

I walked over to my bay window and used the FOB remote to start the GXP. She roared to life under it'* moving pads and cover. Gotta keep the battery charge and oil up into the valve train. ComeOn Springtime!
