Atta boy!!! I've been doing that for quite awhile myself. Now that I have 2, 4.3 liters and 1, 3.8 liter, they all now use the same filter.

Is there a bigger/better oil filter for a 3800 II?
If so I may consider getting it the next time I change my oil.

As far as normally stocked filters at Autzone, Pepboys, Advance? Yes.

The 3800 uses the STP S3387A which is 3.11 inches long
The 4.3 liter uses the STP S3980 which is 4.44 inches long.

Of course, you don't have to use STP, but some of us may warn you not to use Fram oil filters.

Oh, forgot to add that both of those filters will fit either engine. Some of us have opted to use the "longer" filter. Guess it filters more and allows you to use the entire 5 quart jug of oil as opposed to 4.7 quarts. or whatever it calls for.

Good to know Mike, thanks!
I have heard/seen the Fram issues, I only use Mobil 1 synthetic, or Bosch Distance Plus oil filters, I'll see what I can find from either of those.

I have 2 remedies for that Sarah. 1 is kinda expensive, and the other one is cheap free.

1. Get a filter relocation kit.
2. Don't change the oil immediatley after driving the truck. ie, let it cool down. LOL.

I picked up a TV cable for the GP today. Since the old one fell apart when I removed it.

Huh? I can get it off no problem without burning myself. A strap wrench fits around it no problem and you have plenty of space for leverage. After doing my truck twice and about a dozen 4.8/5.3 trucks at work I've gotten good at it.
