CB Radio
I was wondering if i could just buy a 2-way radio and tune it to channel 19 and if it would be able to listen and send messages to CB'*? has anyone tried this? I just dont want to buy a CB radio. I'd rather have something more handheld and dont want to pay alot for a handheld CB. Thanks!

First CB is legal everywhere, that'* why it'* called Citizen'* Band. That'* also why you get some real morons on there, but that'* a different story.
The two way radios you get through Target and whatnot are a different band. I believe it is Family Band, so no, you can't tune it to CB channels. If you were to find a set that used crystals, you could retune them, but I'm not gonna begin to guess on the legality of that project.....

wrong.... sort of... while you DO need licenses for those.....
i have 8 mile cobra 2 ways to use channels 1-14 (low power .5 watt) its free, called FRS or family radio service... and to use 15-22 (GMRS - general mobile radio service 1 watt power) requires an FCC license $75 for 5 years......
also Police scanners in most states are a NO-NO unless you have a letter from the state police cheif sayin why you would need one (or are a FF/EMS)... i know here in MI its a MAJOR felony to have one at all in the vehicle EVEN if the battery is the glove box and the actulal scanner is in the trunk....

and just about anywhere in the US on LSB
mind you "kickers"AKA linear amplifiers are IIlegal

To clarify some other posts here, CB is free, FRS is free. However, some FRS radios now are sold with higher power and do require a license. FRS and CB cannot 'crosstalk'. Frequencies are way off.
