Default Muscle Questions....

Hey guys......

I was wondering.....if im doing low reps of something, and have been for months, is it possible that all the fast twitch muscles for that one time hard lift, have eliminated the slow twitch? Like I keep getting stronger, and pushups get easier but my arms fail after like 25-30 pushups even though I can bench my own weight and probably more......I remember one summer I couldnt even bench my own weight but I just did 40 reps and 3 sets of a light weight and I got 42 pushups in 30 secs.......Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks guys....

How often do you lift? If you lift with the same muscles every day for a while you're muscles will get fatigued at first and eventually you will plateau. The fact that you can't do many push ups is because of fatigue. Take about 2 days off and on the third day lift hard, you will probably notice that you might be able to do another rep on the bench press. However, you will notice a dramatic increase in you're number of push ups because you're muscles will be rested therefore their endurance will be better. This is why many athletes "taper" before a big event. They train hard for months and then the week before the event they take off a week so their muscles repair themselves.

try taking 5-10 lbs off and doing more reps, or do a different exercise for a few weeks, or just not lift at all for a week or two.

I find it best to do different exercises on different days.
Upper body one day, then abdomen and back, then legs, rest, repeat. And going for swim after each workout makes me feel great.

Yeah but doesnt doing more reps and less weight show less of a gain???? I can see my triceps are alot bigger now from lifting but I cant do many more pushups than before.
