Stupid 24V DOHC
I hate it the stupid Intrepid has it in a 2.7 and they think thats big enough for a car bigger than the bonny. The put that little lawnmomer engine in and then the stupid thing fails for being to small.(as they claim). The engine sludges oil then leads to the timing chain going bad and the entire engine needing replacing. Im hoping I stopped it long enough though. when we got the car it burned a quart of oil in 300 miles. this was after the oil change so refilled it and it has stopped burning as much. Hopefully have saved it for a little longer. Also it has very little power. yesterday had to get moving in a hurry and i mean a hurry and floored it. tach jumps to 5000 rpm and i swear it the bonny at 3-3500 rpms moves faster. I wish we could have gotten the 3.2 but this was an incredible deal. But im po'd because the mechanmic told us that these are prone to failure and that it has about 70k on the engine now we should get ready for engine failure.

My roommate has one of those in her Intrepid also, and you are 100% correct, what a POS engine.
Be prepared when the fuel pump goes out, you need to replace the entire assembly, at a cost of $250 minimum for parts

Good luck. It'* most likely gone. By far the worst engine Chrysler ever built. Ask any Mopar nut and they will agree. 98-late 01 2.7s are a VERY common failure, and you are biting the bullet when you buy a Chrysler of those years with that engine. Check this out -

We just got it for my sister and they had the engine replaced when it had 70k miles in i think 2004 but they claimed it was a faulty part on the inside. I would have told my parents no but i was in new york for the week and they bought it when they found it. other things i hate are the stupid headlights that are litterally yellow.

That 2.7 isn't even good enough to be considered a boat anchor...
its a total POS from the word go... The Dodge dealership in town won't even mess with the motor... They simply replace them...
At one point we saw a series of the 2.7'* die before 80k... That motor was a Joke... The old 3.5 and 3.2 are way way better in every respect

Cant waste the extra money on synthetic. She would be paying like ten dollars extra between oil changes and at min wage she cant afford that. Plus we put penzoil high mileage in it and the first quart burned in like 200 miles but since then it has been about 1000 miles and it has only burned like a 1/4 quart of oil so I know its better now then it was.
