Default first time upgrading a laptop..

I'm going to upgrade my 3 year old laptop get it a little more current since it'* a little outdated. I'm going from 256 MB of ram to 1 GB and I want to upgrade the harddrive as well but I have no idea what will work with it. I'm used to desktops. The current hard drive is a Hitachi Travelstar 40 GB 4200 RPM drive. I would like to go with an 80 GB 7200 drive. My question is, do I go with an EIDE drive, or SATA drive? None of hte pictures I"m finding show the pins so I have no idea what is compatable. any help would be appreciated! thanks!

I would also like to install an internal wireless card if possible. I'm using an external netgear card now and am dissapointed with it.. I have this cover on my laptop that covers this slot. What type of slot is this and can it be used for an internal wireless card? Is it a mini-PCI or what? My laptop had an option to have the integrated wireless card but mine did not come with it.. Would I install one here?

Can you go from a EIDE HDD to a SATA HDD without upgrading anything else?

that is an eide hard drive and the laptop does NOT support sata, if it did it would be a sata hd

and there is no way to upgrade a laptop to sata without a new motherboard which basically isnt available for laptops
