HHmmmmm not to bad i say...

Iv been playing with it for a few min.

It runs very well on my main PC.

Memory used: 523MB Startup.
Processes: 41

Its not to bad, i haven't changed any settings yet either.

I mean i do have 2GB of memory so thats why its running so well. and Dual Core AMD X64 helps also :)

I think I'll stick to my XP Media Center Edition for at least a year. Let the inevitable screwups in the new OS get fixed.

How long does the free period last. I need to install a new OS on my parent's computer. There was an issue with the windows authentication

THe MS RULE!! Always wait for RC1 to get released! LOL

Garb 11-08-2006 10:42 PM

Does it finally let you use both screens individually? (I.E. diff backrounds, etc)

that depends on your graphics card

petraman 11-09-2006 12:14 AM

How did you get it? They just stopped the program

harofreak00 11-09-2006 12:19 AM

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...y/preview.mspx

2nd paragraph - click this

"If you acquired Windows Vista RC1 with a magazine or other publication, you will need to register and receive a Product Key before you can install the product."

then select language

scroll to bottom, select location, go

sign in... etc.. if you cant get it from there, you dont deserve it

you will need to burn it onto a DVD, so if you dont have a DVD burner you are screwed... the file is 2.5GB and takes a while to download

petraman 11-09-2006 12:24 AM

thx.

Since it's an iso, I assume you can use alcohol 120%?

yes and no

No i haven't found a way to do two different ones.

Yes you can now get a wide screen wallpaper to go across both screens.

Its not the video card that controls that, cuz when i had Linux on there i could do two different backgrounds and all sorts of cool things :)

from what ive been told, its pretty stable. my prof thats been using it as main OS for "quite awhile" [whatever that means] said it was more stable for him than XP was.

ive got a copy of it w/ key sitting right here next to my comp, but i dont really want to install it on my laptop.

Custom88 11-09-2006 01:06 PM

I'm tempted to use it since I have such trouble with XP booting sometimes, but what I'm worried about is driver support.. I'm going to assume that XP driver's won't work on VISTA like XP/2000 drivers were for the most part, interchangable. That's a correct assumption, right? If so, I'm feeling kind of lazy to go and find new drivers for all my hardware for my custom built PC, not to mention I'm leary that my software won't work either. (I know for a fact that my HP printer I just bought WON'T work on VISTA because HP won't make a driver for it even though it's a new printer. grrr!)

harofreak00 11-09-2006 06:43 PM

i really want to install it, but i really wanna be safe about this, and i dont have a easy way of backing up 150GB

bandit 11-09-2006 06:44 PM

do you have an extra hard drive, even if its only 20GB?

petraman 11-09-2006 06:44 PM

I was gonna download it, but I couldn't find a real reason to. I'm fine with my Gentoo/Windows dualboot!

sqela 11-09-2006 06:54 PM

if you can get a ver. of linux to 100% work on my main pc, i will use it. ;)

popatim 11-09-2006 07:03 PM

This is too co-incidental. I was up until 3:30am installing Mandrake on a system I built for a friend in need, but I've found that i've the best luck with linux installs when I stick to intel chipsets. Linux seems to be hit or miss with Viachips as they tend to display dma issues for me.
