I have driven GM cars all my life. From 55' chevys, 57' chevys, Nova, Belairs, I now have 2 Corvettes, a 1967 NCRS top flight car and a 1961 Resto-mod Corvette and a 2008 HHR SS. All cars with performance. Now I see the Chief of GM suggesting a $1.00 rise in gas taxes to "nudge" us in the direction of small cars. This is idiocy, if you want me to buy your product, you build what I like. Are you so smart that you know what is better for us than we do? I will buy what I like and if GM doesn't build anything I like I will go elsewhere. I doubt that GM will get another undeserved bail-out. Keep your anemic Cruzes and the gazillion unsold Volts

I do agree with you. People buy what they want. And to force us to buy what they want us to buy isn't going to work well. I'll stick with my old cars. I have no interest in buying anything new. We already pay to much in gas tax. All that will do is make people drive less, or spend less in other areas such as vacations. So who really gets hurt?

GM wants to sell off it'* volt. With higher gas prices the volt is more appealing. Along with their other fuel efficient cars. All it really does is hurt the US economy. When gas prices go up 50 cents it takes out 150 billion dollars for the economy. So 1 dollar rise in gas prices removes 300 billion dollars. Just so GM can sell some cars. Come on. GM isn't the only car company that makes electric or fuel efficient cars. Sure it maybe a step in the right direction, but Americans don't want small cars. In general we buy big cars that suck down gas. As we have done the last 100 years. The change won't happen over night.

It isn't really GM per/se actually saying this. Who is one of the largest shareholders of GM? The Feds. Who has directors on GM'* Board? The Feds. Who has huge Loan moneys and Grants given to GM to develop what this tax is intended to spur? The Feds.
