it happened. it sucks. but we let it happen. and now they've infiltrated. now they're building some toyotas here. does that make them an american car also? then again, we build a ton of our cars in mexico and canada, and now australia. well. we've taken over other countries' auto industries, just is hard to believe that someone actually took us down.

It'* sad, but all we can do is let GM, Ford, and Chrysler work on winning the american consumers back with appealing quality products. Which is something they are doing now with the products out and the one'* down the road. But Toyota and Honda images are slowly declining with the number of recalls and problems their owners are having. I know this is bad to say, but I kinda like seeing broke down Toyotas and Hondas on the side of road

I just don't see what the big hype is with these Toyotas. Yes, they have nice reliable engines, BUT then you got the cheesy cheapo interiors. Every toyota I have ever sat in had the cheesiest interior. Yes they look nice, but has anyone pushed on the plastic pieces? The feel like they are as thin as a piece of paper. I can honestly say they are nowhere near a big deal to me. I would rather own a old junky beat up Chevette, even if someone tried to give me a brand new Toyota. All I can say is GM, Chrysler, and Ford, get your a$$es in high gear and get some more hybrids and slightly lower prices going! Come on GM, we know you can be number one again, Don't give up!

Also my gruff with this is where our money goes, who cares if they are built in the US? Our money is still going to Japan.

I am ten years behind the times because most every car I buy was built in the previous decade. So I cannot say how things are NOW, but as of 1997, Toyota was building products that were simply better made. Their engines, especially the 4 cylinders, are incredibly reliable. Suspension components are more logically designed and are much simpler to repair. I know of few people who have owned a Corolla or a Camry who were not very happy with the way the cars perform and with the fact that the cars seem to go a long long time without the need for repairs.

Blame the unions. Blame corporate decisions that drive the sale of the most profitable (and unreasonable) sport utility vehicles. Blame corporate decisions that concentrate on styling over reliability. They are just doing what worked for fifty years, and seem unable to understand why the result should be different now.

I have seen some signs that Toyota is making the same kind of mistakes as their American counterparts. Cheap plastic trim parts on Previas and Siennas that break easily and V-6 engines that won't stay sealed any better than Ford'* crappy 3.8. I see Toyota trucks and SUV'* that are as big as anything out there and I wonder if they aren't also on their way back down from a peak of quality in the early 90'*.

Time will tell.

i'm so tired of these topics. GM isnt the end all be all. Its been on top for so long, quality and design are lacking because they were number 1 with no challengers. Let competition make them better, or fade from the charts. Only time will tell. And for the whole american car thing, Toyota makes some of their cars here, and some elsewhere. GM has the same policy. Why dont people B**** about GM building cars in mexico before downing toyota. I have never driven a toyota, and dont care for them much, but the unfair bashing is getting old.

Hey its not as bad as American cars were in the 80'*. Assembly line workers were literally doing heavy drugs on the job back then and didn't give a rat'* butt about quality.

GM is improving when compared to Toyota'* reliability factor.

Also, please keep this to a mild debate. i do not want any Toyota vs. GM fights. This isn't why I started it.
