All else being equal, small mom and pop shop. Corps have no loyalty to their employees.

Pros and cons for both, really.

With a small mom and pop business you are likely to be treated better. However, they lack financial stability as with an established corporation. So you might have less risk being laid off, etc, but run a much greater risk of losing your job due to bankruptcy (which I was unfortunate enough to experience first hand).

Working for a large corporation definitely spreads out the risk. That is something that I am in the process of discovering right now especially. The work dried up in one area, but there'* plenty of work elsewhere.

Larger corporations are governed by different rules too. This has both pros and cons. Covers your back and gives you something to turn to as long as people recognize and abide by the rules.

I work for a decent sized corporation and am treated very well there. There is a lot of room to grow and get promoted, and the benefits are great.

Right on.

Getting promoted: I guess that'* a matter of choosing tasks with the right amount of visibility and doing them well. Can be done in a big corporation, can be done in a medium corporation. Not sure about a mom and pop organization... however I guess that if they treat you well then you are set there too!

I've gone from a small, private company that has been bought out three times by increasingly larger corporations. It gets worse and worse.

Mom&Pop company hands down. Anyone who works for a bigger corp. knows they get more inefficient with size.

You say that now until you're kicked to the curb like dried up dog $hit! There'* no loyalty to the employee at a large company.

Over time you'll see what I'm talking about.
