UNFREAKIN BELEIVABLE -- WTF!!! LONG RANT

So, some of you may remember me posting a while back about problems we have had with our upstairs neighbors and loud music.
Well, this weekend was nuts. Friday night we got home a little after 8 and were getting ready to put our 3 yr old to bed. The neighbors came home and immediately turned on the music. About a minute later I heard their door open and close, so I went out on the porch to ask them to turn it down so I could put her to bed. The one girl starts on me about watching her...wtf???Just the other day they were coming home when we were, so they stopped up the road and sat and watched us go inside, then they came home.
SO this turns into a big argument and we call the cops, who didn't even come of course.
So this morning when I was working Habitat, my wife and daughter went to the mall because they didn't want to be home alone. When they were leaving, the neighbors were going in to the mall. Next thing you know the wife is driving home in the left lane of the highway and the neighbors are following her, then they pass and stay in the right lane. My wife signaled to turn into the gas station, so they cut over into the left lane to turn in to the gas station. Then, my wife takes a hard right and just goes home, which is like a 1/10 mile from the gas station. Then, they neighbors pull up and sit out front for like 10 mins.
I didn't know about this til she came to pick me up from finishing Habitat. We called the cops, but since it was over they won't do anything. We are going to the District magistrate Monday to press charges though.
Then, to top all of this off, about 2 hours later, the landlord comes over and gives us a friggin 30 day eviction notice. He said he's tired of us complaining about the neighbors.
Our lease does say he can terminate for any reason with a 30 day written notice, so were screwed.
So, now we have to find a new place, come up with a security deposit, which we don't have ( and still need brakes).
We did look at one apartment already, which was decent and was like $100 cheaper a month, but we need our own stove and fridge, which we also don't have.
All in all, I don't mind moving, at least we can get away from the neighbors, but it crazy that we have to. Not to mention having to come up with the money to do it.

Nothing a gas filled light bulb upstairs woudnt fix....

as for moving its likely the best thing but talk to someone about the eviction i'm sure it has to be handed on the first of the month when rent is collected.

Well, we just payed rent yesterday. We have a 5 day grace period. Worst part is, that is only the second time we have been "late" in the 3 and 1/2 years we have lived here
I am going to have my boss/ attorney look into it, and moving is definitely the best thing, but it still a pain in the a$$ and a cost of money I don't have.
What can you do :?:

Is there any family you can stay with for a little while, at least until your house is ready? Or is that not an option?

tallbump 10-06-2007 07:39 PM

I had thought about that. It will be 1 year or so until our house is ready, and that is kinda long to stay w/ family, especially when you have 2 kids.
Only real option would be my Mom, but her apartment is only a 2 bed room, so that wouldn't work. The in laws don't have any room.
I do have a friend who has a loft apartment over his barn, basically a big one room efficiency, which would work, but that would be tihgt for a year, and it would be like a 45 minute drive back and forth to work.
I would consider it they offer, but I wouldn't ask.
Plus, my daughters would have to change schools, and then change again when our house is ready.

BTW, Rob, I like the light bulb idea.
But, seriously, that is the craziest part out of all of this, we haven't done anythihng to them.
We were even giving the one girl a ride to work a few weeks ago because her car was down and she works near me. Then, the music started back up so the rides stopped.
This has been an ongoing problem since June. We figured the rides might put an end to it, but that didn't work.
Tried to kill em with kindness, but now I just wanna......

It's time to bite the bullet and buy a house.

I'm sure you can find a small fix'er'upper that's not much more than the rent you are paying and the privacy will be worth it.

It will be hard at first but then it will keep getting better as you build equity. ;)

Jim W 10-06-2007 07:42 PM

Paul, they're building right now. It'd be a real pain to go thru buying a house while one is being built.

tallbump 10-06-2007 07:46 PM

Yeah, actually as part of the Habitat agreement, we can;t buy a house except theirs. Their point is to help people who couldn't otherwise afford decent housing. If you already have a house, you can't get into the program.
You'll see in my 100+ thread, we are working as much as we can do get into our house as quickly as possible, but realistically it will be the end of 08.

Do you know any tough women? You know. The ones with nasty tatoos and hang around with Hell's Angels types. Just have one pay them a "friendly" visit. Shouldn't cost you more than $100. ;)

You need: a half dozen or so cheap boomboxes (the kind with knob volume and tuning controls), one multiple socket extension cord, and even cheaper remote power timer. The timer goes in the wall socket, the extension plugs into the timer, and the radios go in the extension. Tune the radios to the same station, turn the timer off, then turn all the volume controls all the way up. Set the timer to go on and off at 10 minute (or 5, or 15, or whatever increments it uses.) intervals from about 2am until 5am, or whatever time it is that the wastes of skin actually sleep during.
Do this about a week after you hand the landlord "ALL" of the keys back. Make sure nothing can be proven to be yours, and leave no fingerprints. Go in late at night, and wear a ballcap. Don't park right in front, and it's best to drive somebody else's car.
