Default Anyone know how quick a 86 Trans Am 305 4bbl. 5 speed is?

Just what the title says. A 1986 Trans Am with a low output (165hp/250ft.lbs) 305, 4bbl, and a T5 5 speed. Just wondering if anyone knows 0-60 or 1/4 mile or anything like that for it? It also has a 3.42 rear end. (stock is like 3.23 or so) I think its like mid 15'* or around there but I'm not sure... Thanks.

im not sure, but id give it a 15.8
maybe see as low as 15.5, but no faster than that

remember, in 86, a new corvette was a 15.00 car.

...loong story short, its slow.

Corvettes were never 15.00 cars. My dads '84 Z28 Auto was a 15.0 car. Corvettes were about two tenths quicker that year. But my dads Z was an HO, so I figure given the extra 25hp that should be good for a half second or so, plus his was an auto, but the wear and tear on a TA with 140k on it would more than make up for it. But I would say, assuming its driven properly, no slower than 16.0, but definately no quicker than about a 15.4 or so. And this car has exhaust and 3.42 gears, stock gears were 3.23'*, so thats a tenth or so right there. I was hoping maybe someone would have personal experience with them or something.

Anyways, this is why I was wondering:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...pagename=WDVW\

This will be a little slower (not much though) due to the small system is has, but that can be fixed.

Oooh.... someone got a hold of a can of blue paint. Looks like a decent car that could be cleaned up into a really nice piece.

Yeah, the blue was a little overdone in the interior, but I've seen worse believe it or not... The idea is that it will be my project car during college. I'll work on the body a little bit to get the dents fixed and the rust and stuff, get some nice wheels for it (I'm not talking like 20'* or anything, I mean like honeycomb trans am wheels that belong on it), and do some engine work of course, and maybe swap out the 3.42'* for 3.73'*. But what I like is that its driveable how it is and I can just slowly do stuff to it when I can afford it.

BTW....anyone want a Turbo Lumina???

That'* cool, I'm looking at Camaros and Trans Ams as a project car, and something to learn on.

Eventually the 305 is gonna go, however I'll probably get some nice heads for it with some port work, headers, good intake, etc..., and then when I drop in the 327/350/383 later all the stuff will bolt right on to the new engine. Like I said it will be a slow continuous project.

All I can say is, ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME! FWD is fun and all, and you can really surprise the **** out of people in w & h bodies, but I've been wanting something that when I just need to let it all out and can kick sideways and have some fun with, yet be fairly cheap....so this is a winner. It will be different than FWD, but I think I'll like it. Its not like I won't have something FWD to still have fun with.

Good luck man sounds like a nice car... Hmmm would a 455ci. H.O. or a 400ci. H.O. or even a 403ci. fit? Hmmm now that would kick a$$! What about an LT1 or LS1 or LS2?
