tranny flush in a manual
 

my brother has asked me to do a transmission flush in his 97 saturn SL. i was planning on doing the same procedure i did on my bonneville(drop pan, change filter, pour in dipstick tube), but then i remembered that manuals are way different, and i've heard they don't have dipsticks(?)

anyone have any helpful info?

Not sure on manual transmissions, but a transmission "flush" on an automatic is more than just dropping the pan and changing the filter. A "flush" is done at a shop with a machine hooked up to the trans.

yeah, a flush is a little different then just chainging fluid... BUT i have had two manual tranny vehicles and delt with their trannys a lot.

no pan, but there is a drain plug. just remove it to drain......... ;)

above that somewhere should be another plug, thats the fill plug. it might be on the same side or the other side, depends on the tranny.

usually its fill till its flush with the fill plug hole.

I haven't done one, but I think Darrel is correct.

Most of the ones that I have done have been like Darrel describes. I've run into one or two that just have the fill plug. Those, I pump out with a hand pump and refill. Be prepared for some nasty smelling stuff. ;)

nasty is right! Gear oil is bad... probably not as bad as SC oil but it has to be up there.

yeah, i know about the fill plug. don't the differentials in RWD cars have the same thing sorta?
