For those good at math, how many feet ahead is a car that runs a 14.8 vs. 14.9? This is when the winner crosses the finish line how far back is the other car at .1 difference?

Assuming the cars took off at EXACTLY the same time, which is unlikely, the car running the 14.9 would be at the rear fender of th 14.8 car...based on my experiences at the track.

It all depends on the speed at the finish line.

For comparison sake, if the losing car were going 10mph (14.7 feet per second) at the finish line, 0.1 sec = 1.47 ft. Now lets expand that to say 86mph(126.1 ft/sec) quarters and 0.1 sec = 12.61 ft. This is a simplified example, but it gets the point across.

It all depends on how fast they're going. One car could just dog it until it got into power range, etc, while the other fly's off the line, but looses it halfway.

But at the end they are going to be very close to the same exact distance apart no matter how fast or slow the cars go at the end. Its not going to vary more than about a carlength. But, you really have to assume that both cars have similar trap speeds.
