Soooo... again im feeling the need to invest in a new vehicle.. This time for reasons different than previous dreams of better performance .

Actually the thing that is bringing this one on is well no easy way to put it. This morning was my third fill up this week.. its looking like another one will be probably saturday.. I work 50 miles away from my home.

I need to a more fuel efficient vehicle. I mean even at its most conservative highway driving im only averaging 20 mpg. Thats a big blow.

Granted the car im looking at would most likely still require premium fuel and not be a dog at all.. but is rated for up to 30 mpg highway. plus with being a stick obviously i can make sure the rpms stay really low.

What is this car im talking about? well it has a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder. puts out 260 and weighs only 3000 lbs. Yes it would be a 2008 cobalt SS (staying with the GM name). As of now im jst looking but founs one with only 20K miles for arond 15K so im thinking about maybe trying to find a loan and see what happens.

Does the Cobalt truly get measurably better miles per gallon than your Bonny? I have researched many vehicles because of fuel cost and discovered it was hard to beat the Bonny'* MPG. Take a look at the Mazda 3 with the upgraded 4 cyl engine- not much better mileage. BTW- my ssei has run 87 octane for most of its 130k miles.

Are you really getting much more MPG with the Cobalt? If you want great mileage, you might consider a early 1990s Civic as a commutter and keep the Bonny for weekends- will get you better mileage and keep you with more cash in the bank than buying the Cobalt. BTW- the Cobalt has good performance stats but its ride and comfort is brutal- can't imagine sitting in a Cobalt 5 days a week 100 miles per day. I drove a 2007 rental Cobalt 400 miles over 3 days and wanted to hang myself... painful.

The actual mileage per gallon on the Bonny may be one of the best kept secrets when one adds the size and performance.

I have been measuring the fuel economy every tank for the past year and have never seen over 21. and even that was with rounding up from about 20.9 mpg. Plus the Bonnie isnt mine its technically loaned from my parents until i finally buy a new vehicle and well my sisters car finally is crapping out and might need a new one.

If you are putting on 100 plus miles per day that comes to almost 30k miles per year if you ad in weekend travel. Any car you buy will be worthless because of the mileage depreciation. You might then look at a vehicle that can handle the hard mileage. One that doesn't match your mileage specs but is an example of a high mileage cheap to maintain and easy to service is a Crown Vic. Taxis often run them well over 300k in a urban setting. The Civic and Corrolla also meet that criteria- although I know you live in the Motor State and Jap cars can be frowned on.

I only work 6 months out of the year and carpool so only drive half of the weeks on average i put about 8-9K per year due to work only. i have looked at some older cars but im trying to avoid having to repair and pay for repairs of an older car. Hence buyinf a slightly used vehicle that is still under initial warraties and missing ot on the original depretiation of buying new

my wife has a 07 coblat lt and we drove with eachother (both cars together) from Iowa to NH and back she was following me and everytime i had to fill up she did too just she took on 10 -12 gallons per fill up and i took 14-16 gallons to fill up

Well yeah increase in milage bt decrease in tank size. that 4 gallon difference cordinates to almost a 12 dollar savings per fill up that can add up!

but it'* so nice to tap the pedal and leave her in the dust that'* worth $12 a tank to me plus i run 93 and she runs 87 which when your stuck on toll highways sucks way worse for me i was paying $5.359 a gallon and she was paying $4.899 this was a couple summers ago

HAHAHA dang yeah well the 08 SS (the one im looking at) puts ot 260 with being alot lighter than the bonnie it would hold its own plus its a stick.. so if i really didnt care about the gas i could manage. But yeah gas is killing me lately

the 08 SS is the turbo one correct?
