Was the HD Suburban offered in newer models or did that option get dropped at some point? Any other SUV makes/models that offer the same towing and payload capabilities?
They did make the suburban 2500 after 07 but the bigeset engine it came with was the 6.0

after 08 though you could get 6.2 "max" 1500 suburbans which are rated for about 10000 with the 3.73 gears and 8k with 3.42. the standard pickups with crew cab short bed would be a little higher

Be prepared to drive home empty, if the truck doesn't meet your specs! I know there can sometimes be more pressure on yourself to "make it work" when you go to extra lengths or trips to go check an item out.

Well that was a bust, the truck was way rough. All 4 corners and the hood needed paint and body work. The RR fender skirt was missing and it looked like the thing had a snow chain come apart once and beat up the body. And the instrument cluster was missing. The guy said it was acting up and he sent it out for repair. I wasn't even going to make a offer and the sales guy finally said what is your offer and I said 5gs. It needed paint, tires one of the auto track shocks was leaking. He said the best he could do was 7800. So we took a nice drive through the sierra mountains and had lunch at boomtown on the boarder so I wouldn't call the day a total waist. Guess I'll keep shopping on, the right rig will come along some day.

craigslist is great IMO. ive bought 3 cars off of there, and a scooter. among several other things. its a bit harder now, with all the scammers but its still doable. ive been looking for about 3 months for a car, and i finally found one im happy with. bought my cars exact copy with a sunroof and heated seats. got a great deal on it, and its got a good history.

the key with craigslist, is persistence. every night for 3 months straight i would spend roughly 2 hours on craigs and other sites looking in my area and areas within about 100 miles. eventually you will find the car you want for the price you want.

in my experience you can talk a craigslist poster down by atleast $500. they get almost 20 emails a day, and seeing someone in person alone is a great motivator to sell.

Ok might be a slight change in plans. I found this half ton on Craig'* list today and if I can pick it up cheep enough and fix the transmission cheep enough I think I can flip it and have more money to buy the 3/4 ton I truly want.

I put a email into this person but they haven't got back to me.

^^ Danger danger!! ^^ I'm not sure I would take the gamble on a fix-n-flip unless you can inspect completely and know for sure that you can handle the problem 100%. High likelihood that there are other problems than that ad makes it seem. $1400 is really not all that bad for a tranny job IMO so why wouldn't the seller just do that and keep the vehicle?

I'm thinking it'* because of the area it'* listed in. Roseville is kind of a upper end city and most people there have money. My theory is they just want to get rid of it and buy something new. I am planning on taking my scanner and giving it a good once over before I hand over the cash. Also transmission work doesn't scare me like most. 1400 to a transmission shop transulates to about 500 bucks in parts to me and a couple days labor.
