the time is comming, new car......

my car is about done im afraid to say, its about 142k, and ive got to spend at least a grand on it to get it running right, then after that.......what next? that, and im tired of such a big car. so i want to get somthing newer, smaller and sportier.

Im starting took really hard at eclipse's. i know what you'll all say, but the 97-99's are dead sexy. its just so hard to find a GSX, there all GST's (i want the awd/5speed turbo). im also looking at a 2000+ eclipse GT, 5 speed of course - only in black. the one thing im worried about on these is insurance, im afraid it will rape me

what else do you guys think? i want somthing a little smaller, sportier, and potential. SSEI's are to big, i do like 2 door GTP's, but somthing about the interiors, i like foreign interiors more.

i may get somthing nice like these, under 12,000, but i may just somthing cheap, like less than 5,000 which is the better choice sense ill be moving out soon, but i dont know what to get.

BonneMeMN 07-25-2004 09:13 PM

We'll have to hook up before you get rid of that. My car was under $4k ya know....

Performance, reliability, milage, comfort, features? What's important to you?

Keep in mind, those GS-T's will not be the strongest in the drivetrain dept though. Not bad at all, and it's not rice at all if done right.

Jim W 07-25-2004 09:36 PM

Mikey are you selling the car as is?

mikey 07-25-2004 10:02 PM

not as is, ill fix the radiator, fix the bumper and im going to bring it into a suspension shop soon, it may sit in my garage over the winter while its being fixed

i know ill never get what i put into it, which is why the amps, rims, and possibly other audio stuff are comming out for stock stuff. i may have a a resonator put on to make it quieter, in addition possible the oem exhaust tips put back on, all depends

i really want a gsx, almost as bad as a 350z. right now, i think ill get somthing cheaper, like a 98-99 monte z34?? kind of bland cars, but drop them, gfx and there pretty sharp, if i can score a black on black one with 60k for a good price (6-6.5k)

macho_mike21 07-25-2004 10:35 PM

3000GTs, all the turbos come with a stick, f-body maybe?

mikey 07-26-2004 06:07 PM

f body's and 3000gt's are too sporty, i just dont see myself driving one. im going to take a look at

98-99 z34's
4 door alero (ive seen a couple nice ones)
4 door grandam GT (always liked the exterior, not sure on the interior)
98+ regal GS (seem a little overpriced around here though) - fast, but kinda got that grampa image....

looks like i might be sticking domestic, since i cant afford the foreign cars i really want, i want somthing newer, low mileage and reliable, for a decent price, which those are all of.

SSsuperchargedEi 07-26-2004 09:12 PM

www.dsmtrader.com

my buddy just bought a 93 gsx with 60,000 miles that was posted on there for $4,400... and it runs 12.9's...

BonneMeMN 07-26-2004 10:46 PM

You can find older DSM's for 2k if you do it right.

Regals are my favorite 4 door 3800, but if I could have any, i'd get a Riv. Good styling, but it's two doors. A lil lower and wider looking, and sportier looking.

mikey 07-26-2004 11:16 PM

if i got a dsm, id do it right, 97-99 2nd gen, gsx, 5 speed, no point in getting a car "close" to what i want, like a 95 gst, when id just want to replace it

regal gs's are nice, but they seem a little high in this area, but that l67 is SOO tempting, so fast for so little, and torque...hmmmm maybe a drop and some rims will get rid of that grandpa image.

BonneMeMN 07-26-2004 11:22 PM

They can be pretty badass. Check out Your ride within the last month for my Midwest GP meet gallery.

what?!?!?! those are the worst dsm's!! the crank loves taking nice long walks in those 2g's... thats why everyone with a 95-99 does a 1st gen swap, only utilizing the larger 2g exhaust manifold (they usually go ahead and port them anyway).. there are very very few 6bolt 2nd gens running faster than 13's. only problem is that all of 'em are super unreliable

pfff. The Regal isn't any more grandpa-ish than what you're used to driving.. It's a little more sporty IMHO. I LOVE the Regals! I had the pleasure of driving one (LS not GS though) and they drive very nice and the interiors are very nice and plush. THe brakes are horrible though. I'd choose a regal over a grand prix anyday. the GP's are way too cheap inside. I think the regal looks pretty sporty, same thing with the Riviera. although there are tons of people who would disagree with that unfortunately. :(

I know my car has a grandpa image, and the regal is sportier, but thats why i dont want my car anymore, the grandpa image....

btw, its the 95-97's that have the bad crank walk issue, and its not unheard of for a 1st gen to get crank walk, but the 98-99's dont have that issue really, some due, but its not that common. ill see if i can find some hooked up regals, i dont really want to "pimp" one out, just give it a sportier look/feel to it, i am 20 ya know...

SSsuperchargedEi 07-27-2004 12:37 AM

wait till you graduate and buy a CTS...

mikey 07-27-2004 01:01 AM

if i was spending that much, id wait for my 350z, ive fallen in love with the electric blue ones, or black, or red, just about any color!!!!

This color combo is my fav.

http://bonneville.fearthepearl.com/m...s/DSCF0242.jpg

Thats all I have i guess. The white one opened up his headlights and painted black inside in some of it. Looked bad ass, but he needed to put some driving lights in the foggies down low.

mikey 07-29-2004 11:52 AM

i like the black on grey regal GS's, i think there the lightest L67 equiped car too, not to mention PROBABLY not abused like GTP's, problem is, aroung here they seem to go for more than they do in other area's. i guess i could look for one, they buy one in a different state or somthing, or just wait for that good deal....ill check out insurance, i know a 4 door GTP was pretty high for full coverage, i think it was 1400 every 6 months

Yeah, what the hell are those?

BonneMeMN 07-29-2004 03:24 PM

Turbo, AWD Eclipses. Most years had engines tuned by a company called DSM, or they made the computer or something.

repinS 07-29-2004 03:43 PM

... DSM, or Diamond Star Motors, is a bastard child of Chrysler and Mitsubishi. The alliance produced cars like the Eagle Talon/Mitsu Eclipse/Plymouth Laser, Dodge Avenger, Mitsu 3000GT/Dodge Stealth, and the Mitsu Galant.

I don't think current-generation Mitsu Galants are part of the DSM thing, and the 2000+, current-generation Eclipses are definately a part of DSM.

CFoote 07-29-2004 08:49 PM

The Eclipse is, by far, a chick car.

mikey 07-29-2004 09:43 PM

whats wrong with driving a car girls like? its just makes them want a ride in it

harofreak00 07-29-2004 09:44 PM

i sat in one once, it was the smallest most uncomfortable car i have been in

im 6'3 190

mikey 07-30-2004 12:20 AM

good to know, im 6 2 180 so i wouldn't be to much more comfortable....:( you sat in the 2nd gen right? i really do like the 3rd gen, in certain colors only.

SSsuperchargedEi 07-30-2004 02:16 AM

im 5'9 270 and my fat arse fits in both 1st and 2nd gens... its very crammed in the 2000+

JimmyJames83 07-30-2004 03:59 AM

Ummm... what's a DSM?

Nevermind.. didn't see the other posts.

mikey 08-03-2004 05:37 AM

i went to a lot the other day just to look around, saw a nice 98 ssei, 99 regal gs, but next to them.....2000 300m. ive always liked the styling, but i took a look inside, wow, what a classy car. im starting to look really hard at them. i love the interior exterior of them, they have good power (like 255hp in a 3600lb car) but its no l67......cant have the best of both worlds, they do seem a little smaller than my aurora, in length at least, still kind of a big car..

OLBlueEyesBonne 08-03-2004 03:59 PM

One of my friends has a 1998 Olds Aurora (Pearl white QQX with chromies), and his brother owns a 1999 300M. They both agree that the Aurora has the smoother ride, but handles just as well as the 300M. They agree that if they had the choice to buy either one knowing what they know now, it would be a coin toss. They are both great cars, but if you want the high end power the Rora has more. And there isn't much for aftermarket perf mods for the 3.5 DOHC Chrysler, not that the N* has much but there is more.
As for the Riv, they don't ride quite as nice as the Rora, but they are still a damn tight car.
The Regal GS/GSE is/can be a fast ride and look damn sexy at the same time. Too bad I didn't buy that one I was looking at last year. Firemist red (not many made in this color) with the factory chromies and that thing hauled. But be fore-warned that you'll be sacrificing ALOT of ride quality by going to both this or a DSM.

BTW, what do you think you'll be wanting for the car (my brother is looking into selling his 1988 Olds 98 Touring Sedan with almost 300,000 miles and getting a Rora -he's looked at a few, but they were broke, beat, or the seller's were full of BS).

Also, Mikey, do you have anything as far as subs or amps go that you'd be selling (I'm looking to spend $200 max for a good used amp and sub -I'm cheap)

mikey 08-03-2004 08:32 PM

ive been doing some research on the 300's, seem they're about a 16.0 car, the little aftermarket they have (gears - 100, intake- 100, exhaust 400, tb ????) is about the exact same as a aurora, and it'll make it a consistant 15.5 car. i know it wont be a race car, thats not why im looking at it. i just think they're really classy/nice cars. they've just got more of a upscale, sleeker look than regals, bonnieville's, and 1st gen aurora's....but a regal im sure will slam you to the back of the seat and run migh 13's real easy.

car shopping can be fun and frustrating, i really like the pearl white 2k1 aurora's...gonna be tough.

sub and amps.......ill sell the cw stage 2 for cheap, dual 4 basically brand new for 100, it is in a box, but id highly recommend a different box. i paid 150 for the sub, and thats dealer pricing, used for about 1.5 weeks. im not sure on which amps to let go right now, ill be selling alot of stuff most likely when i sell the car........deck, subs, amps, cap, possibly rims, maybe more.

fantastic88 08-03-2004 08:55 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, DON'T buy a 300M. Interior parts fall off faster than you can pick them up. Sure they have 250hp but probably only 120 go to the wheels via the worst FWD transaxles of the world. They go from 0-60mph in 8 sec. flat. Look at edmunds.com or carreviews.com and read about these things. I've delt with Chryslers in the past and wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy.

mikey 08-04-2004 06:06 PM

i know there unusually slow for a 252hp 3600lb car. probably cause the engine is mounted as if it was a rwd car, so there are more transmission parts sucking up power to get the power to the front wheels.... but im not looking at them for performance, i know with mods it'll be in the 15.5-15.8 range......im looking at them because the interior is very very nice, much nicer than just about every car in its price range, and they are very good looking on the outside. if i could afford it id probably get a white 2001+ aurora, but they're getting to be to much

car shopping sux somtimes
