Default Wireless internet question

Ok, if you go to large libraries you will see that they hvae several wireless access points throughout the building so you can connect and get online. If you go to your wireless survey to see available networks, you only see one network. you don't see all the seperate WAP'*. I'd like to do something similar at home, with two WAP'*. My problem is if I have two wireless access points, my laptop will only see one at a time. They are on seperate channels and hvae differe SSID'*. Do I need to have them on the same channel with the same SSID? I'd like to have wireless throughout the house without choosing the WAP each time I move to a different section of the house. How do you do this? Thanks!

Have them on the same channel. It should act as a simple repeater. I'm interested in doing this myself very soon. I'd like to see if anyone has done it here.

leave them on seperate channels, use the same sid, and use the same key for all of them. I take it these are hard wired to the same switch.

So, what you'll have when you are done is your broadband connection into a router, and your acess points into the router switch ports or a seperate switch.

Set up your wireless as acess points.

I have access to maybe four different channels in any given place on my campus... which I can only assume are four different access points?

correct, any access point that is next to another should be on different channels. Let'* say you have 4 access points. ap'* 1 and 2 are in one area next to each other and ap'* 3 and 4 were together, but totally isolated from 1 and 2. You would put ap'* 1 and 3 on channel 1, and ap'* 2 and 4 on channel 6. If all ap'* are in a square config, were they all could come in contact with each other, they would all need to be on different channels
