Spun a bearing... (With small pics)

Yep. Spun one... On my way to pick up some new drum shoes... And here I was about to do a Sway swap and rebuild this 12.5HP briggs this weekend... I lost Conn. Rod 6, At least it's not In the car. It's my 83 chevy 305... Got it torn apart already, I'll pick up parts tomm morning, and try to have it back together by noon... then it'll only have thrown my schedule for this weekend off 24 hrs, hopefully I can just work a little harder and get it done.

Damemorder 04-09-2004 09:24 PM

Great, I'm halfway to plasti gaugin 6, 5 spun too! today is great :x

sse1990 04-09-2004 10:08 PM

I thought it was your car at first.

I spent the day taking the manual steering box off and installing a power steering box on my 69 GMC pickup. The hoses are a bit too short and I will have to tweak the brackets to mount it.

I have a 305 sitting here from a camero and was gonna install it in this truck but I figure if I am gonna put a v-8 I might as well go 350.

I am gonna have to pick up a couple books so I can rebuild which ever engine I get myself. I may use this 305 as a test to see if I can do it and how long it will last.

Isn't it great at how much room there is to work on these trucks, you can just sit inside the engine bay while you work on them, HEHE.

I was happy enough that I could pull the pan without pulling the mounts and winching the block up, that would have sucked. I think I'll end up with .0005 oversize bearings, but it got too dark to play with it anymore, and i'm just plain tired of looking at emery cloth...

Hey, I picked up a test engine yesterday. It's the briggs, I've got four others just like it, Mom just can't get over that fact... I'm also going to try my hand at this P&P work. I found a guy that will let me use his shop for doing the labor to put electricity in it :D He'll even teach me what I need to do and the whole nine yards. Then again this guy is old enough to be my grandfather and he knows what bartering is...

crzydmnd72 04-09-2004 10:47 PM

New bearings without pulling the engine? Brave man, I would want to pull the engine so I could see it in the light without having to lie on my back LOL. Sounds like you work fast, I spend too much time nitpicking. :hail:

Mike, have you already mounted the pump? yours sounds like a fun project :D

Damemorder 04-09-2004 10:52 PM

I paid $250 for the truck two years ago... If it needs a new motor, It's getting sold. And I had my old man push the truck up on ramps with his 85, and slid a light under there. Trucks are like watches here, I only know one guy without a truck, and he sold his to buy the Malibu.

crzydmnd72 04-09-2004 10:55 PM

83 chevy? hmmm, if you decide to sell, drop me a PM please. 1/2 ton 2wd? I have an 81 Silverado, my OTHER baby and I cannot imagine life without my truck these days

Damemorder 04-09-2004 10:57 PM

Heh, I think I'll take the time to mention that my sister got T-Boned twice in the truck... On the same side... In the same conditions... In two months.

crzydmnd72 04-09-2004 11:02 PM

hehehe, women

Thats the thing about those old truck, they can take a beating

Damemorder 04-09-2004 11:04 PM

I couldn't believe the first time, But the second had me stumped... Door still works, Ya just get a little wind noise when the speedo goes off guage

crzydmnd72 04-09-2004 11:09 PM

So is the actual cab caved in? or just the door thats compromised?

Damemorder 04-09-2004 11:34 PM

Depends, What do you call comprimised? Took a crowbar and some NASCAR bodywork to get the door opened the first time...

Awww heck, thats not t-boned, just a whiskey ding LOL, Still a good looking truck with a little TLC and some paint! Yeah that bearing is kinda gone, looks like it might have been on borrowed time for a while

Damemorder 04-09-2004 11:42 PM

Heh... "Some time"... Let's just say, ever since I bought it with an oil leak... It ran without oil quite a few times, then I replaced the oil pressure sender and quit checking the oil, bad idea. There's another leak somewhere else.

Damemorder 04-09-2004 11:45 PM

Oh, they were T-Bones, she's still paying off the 02 cherokee that got totalled and the 95 half ton that had $2900 in work...

crzydmnd72 04-09-2004 11:52 PM

MAN shes tough on cars or unlucky!

I gotta give her the benefit, my sister has an 00 Civic, hit 3 times in 2 years and none of it her fault, once in a parking lot, someone backed out into her, once parked on the street, someone uninsured backed into her, FAST, and another time rear ended at 30mph stopped at a red light. I cant believe that poor Civic has been able to be ressurected every time LOL

Damemorder 04-09-2004 11:54 PM

LOL, they must have went to the same driving school....

Sorry it took me a while to respond, I was reading truck posts for a while.

I already have the new PS box mounted but the pump is just sitting there. HOpefully on Sunday I can take another look at it and see how I can get the pump mounted. I mean I already have a bracket on the motor and I would maybe nee a spacer for the pump to be centered on the engine pulley, but the braket that ties to the ALT is different, and the hoses are possibly a bit short.)

Too bad I have to work tomorrow :(

BonneMeMN 04-10-2004 12:46 AM

Whadda ya know, i got an L27 that spun a bearing (we think) in my garage right now...

You lost me on this part, do you mean Briggs as in Briggs and Straton, and what are you planning??

Damemorder 04-10-2004 08:13 AM

Yeah, Briggs as in Briggs and Stratton, It's a 12.5 I/C Quiet vertical shaft. It runs perfectly, and I'm going to learn how to Port and Polish on it, I kinda don't want to learn how to port and polish on the L27
