Default Does anybody know how to change a lawn mower spark plug?

I can imagine it'* not that different from a car except I don't know how to chage a car spark plug either. Can I screw it out? Does the white part come out while the metal part stays in or do they both come out? Pics of the tools would be great too. This is the first time pulling the mower out since last fall, and the spark plug has never been change in the two years we have had it. It has good fuel, good oil but it will not start up, or it may start up for a second then putter out. thanks

Uses the larger 7/8 (?) spark plug socket on a ratchet.
Should come right out without much trouble.
And, yes, the white part comes with the metal part when removed.

No spark huh? If the plug doesn't do it, it may be the magneto (pronounced mag-nee-toe), or a loss of compression somehow.

Air filter and carb clean? There may be water or dirt plugging up the jet in the carb.

ya take the plug out and atach it to the plug wire... hold the other end of it and have someone pull the started string... you will know realy quick, fast, and in a hurry if its gettin spark or not....

please dont listen to me.... but take the plug and position it on the block somewhere so you can see the electode and pull to check for spark..
