I don't know where you heard that from, but the torque is up close to 280-300. That'* so they can do the rear deal to stop runaways. The car almost has a flat torque curve from 40 to 120. They're actually impressive.

Well, it'* interesting that you ask that.

I don't know about the Crown Vics, but the Impalas aren't hot stuff. I used to work security at Kerr Industries (they outfit the police package Impalas), and all they have is HD suspension, an oil cooler, tranny cooler, and PS cooler. Other than that, it'* tires, and a top speed limit of 124mph.

Was watching a documentary just the other night. The highway patrol car was just having it'* way with the rear-end of a Hummer.

In Oregon, the State Police use the Crown Vics for normal patrol, but they have Camaro'* for pursuit. Most Counties have the same setup as well.

the "top of the line" motor only makes 239 hp. and 287 lb ft of torque. Not fast by any means but not a slug eather. But some are supercharged depending on what your local law enforcment perfers

Cruisers are faster then your normal sedan, but puruit cars (camaros, mustangs, firebirds) well get ya. Plus now in days it dont matter how fast your car is, there going to catch ya. even if you have a hyabusa(sp?). (like some idiot did where I lived a few weeks ago, 1 hour later he was caught)
