Default I'm not happy (I am now)

I just had a factory new motor installed in my pick-up. Had a private guy do the job cause I don't have anywhere dry to do it myself. Anyhow, I picked up the truck an hour ago, drove it home without a problem, but as soon as I got home it started stalling. Now it won't start at all. :(

Mechanic that put the new motor in is on his way over, hope it'* something simple.
:? :?

Sounds like the tuning may have changed as soon as it warmed up and when open loop..........and it could be something completely different. :?

Good luck figuring it out.

Since it'* a Chev, I figured I'd take a rubber mallet and smack the gas tank a few times.

Sure enough it started a minute, then died again.

So, another couple hundred $$ for a fuel pump. :( If it'* not one thing, it'* another.

Why'd you get a new motor to begin with? Those 305s are just as strong as the 350s.

Lots of past abuse I suspect. Lots of blowby, leaking oil from rear main, and oil and coolant from intake manifold, dangerously low oil pressure due to bearings being chewed up by crank shaft journals that looked like someone pounded on them with a hammer and chisel.

I priced out the cost of parts to rebuilt along with the cost of a crank shaft and boring out the clys, a new crate engine was only a few hundred dollars more. I'm not in the mood to take my chances with a used motor from the j/y. Been there, done that. I want a reliable truck to tow a travel trailer out on the back roads.

I'm thinking now that I'm going to get the tranny looked at very carefully before too long.

That'* surprising. It had to have been abused. My friend has a hand-me-down truck from his dad, a '89 1500. It has the 305 TBI and has somewhere around 4xx,xxx miles on it on the factory motor. It burns a little oil, but it just keeps going and going. The trans was replaced around 250,000 miles. Other than that it hasn't given him a single problem.
