Rick and I both have a full morning. More Sectioning later today and those square thread notification boxes will be replaced. Yeah, they are gay. Remember some things just came with the Forum when we bought it. And aren't going to be permanent. It'* a used house with a fresh coat of exterior paint. We will get around to changing carpets and fixtures to better suit us. The big thing is the awesome domain name. A major score in my book. It alone should bring alot of incidental traffic, Lets be sure to welcome any newcomers to the additional Sections, whether you own one or not.

Nice jb to all. Site looks great, I think it will keep us relevant. But still need to keep "Bonneville" in the for front.

Thanks for all the support here. It was a hard thought decision and one I feel warranted as we settle into the fact Pontiac joins the List of GM Brands gone defunct. I will never allow the Bonneville Club to lose it'* identity here, or the fact that it started this venture. And going to do my best to make the other GM brands we own, and have friends who own them, represented as well. In a manner that is enjoyable and makes them want to become involved. We are all GM.

The only thing I don't like about it is the way its organized, but I presume you're still working on it.

I like the vision, and the realization of the reality that Pontiac is going down into history, at least for the time being. My only fear is that a forum that does everything does nothing well. The reason some forums thrive is because they are specialized. A cadillac owner will go to the cadillac forums. A w-body owner will go to gmwbody.com or w-body.com, or 60degreeV6.com. A Camaro owner will go to an F-body forum, and so on and so forth.

I think that problem is at least partially solved by the fact that our alias is GMForum.com. Its very simple, and very powerful. A newbie wouldn't think of 60degreev6.com, but any average joe could say "I have a GM, I want to go to a forum. Hmmm..." So I think that'* one thing we have going for us here. If we can somehow advertise this place, it would also be of great benefit to us. A forum with such a broad scope needs an equally broad exposure.

I will express one thing that I don't like about this forum and that I have never liked about VBulletin forums overall as compared to SMF forums. This may not bother some of you, but it ticks me off to no end and I've been trying to deal with it. In short, threads get lost to people. If you're like me on w-body.com, you'll post in on average 4-6 threads a day over the year. To have to remember which thread you posted in each time is annoying. With SMF, we had a button called "view unread replies." This is significantly different from "view unread posts" or "subscribed threads." This would allow you to view threads that you have posted in that have been replied to since your last post, so if you're trying to offer someone assistance, you will get there sooner and your thread won't get lost as others are bumped up above it. Most importantly, its saves you a mountain of time. I've lost threads that I've provided input in before with VBulletin and I haven't yet figured out a way around that. If there'* any way, at all, that we can incorporate such a feature in this forum, I believe it would be extremely valuable.

Sorry don't like it a bit and it seems to me we are going the same way as all the other lines like Vega, Cimmaron and all the others.
My opinion is in a short time we will hear nothing about Bonnevilles and the brand will be dead.
For me I will try to get rid of mine and go to a brand or line that has some staying power

My Staff has already had problems with this member and this crap is not constructive in the least. Welcome to Purgatory Velo. ~Venom~

Covering just GM isn't a catch all Forum, and I know several Forums that do this type of coverage (Ford, GM, Mopar specific) that are Million Dollar Operations. In the face of becoming a dead brand (Pontiac is DEAD) I chose to grab the name GMForum when it came to light. Its a done deal and wont be reversed. I took it to the membership and got no negatives. It moved forward. Not saying we will become one of those Forums, but I do see it as a viable way to not only stave off a decline and make hosting a money chore, but bring growth and long term stability.

Sectioning as I mentioned is a morph of the two for merge purposes. But wont change dramatically until We see what kind of other brand participation comes along. That and the fact we have some huge work with an electronic litter trial and search engine indexing and tagging to deal with. All in good time. It will be changed much further as we go along, I assure you. Right now We are dealing with the alligators before we drain and landscape "the swamp" We haven't deviated much from the original other than place Bonneville Mechanical into it'* own subsection and add some Section placeholders for other brands for the moment.

This site uses all money available to advertise. Whatever we have left at the end of each day (and it really is done by the day) goes into advertising. And the proof of it'* effect is in the "guest'* seen each day at the bottom of the Front Page. The previous 24 hours shows ~ Users active in the past 24 hours: 1431 (206 members and 1225 guests). Alot of guests. Getting them to register and be active is a Forum 'net wide problem. But our ad efforts are clearly visible and effective.

The vB is never going to change. Some of the whys are in the backroom for which I know alot cant evaluate. It is PHP on Crack, Or for those that prefer, PHP wrapped in a tuxedo. SMF is freeware, limited formatting, not secure enough for my liking of a huge nearing 10 year old and strong datbase. And a particular like of one button does not make a platform. Add to that the problems that always come along with reformatting this size of database into another format. We lost thread numbering/indexing once already a couple years ago thanks to a previous owner. That won't be allowed a chance again. The Forum already has email notification of threads you post in. You can also view your last 100 posts thru your userCP. I keep that bookmarked myself. I post 10-20 times what you suggest, and have no problem keeping up with mine. And I'm 56 with "personal choices" fed short term memory loss.

Just trying to help explain whats going on and why. I have seen some valid points to consider in most posts here and it will help make decisions when we get back to working on "outside" portion of the Forum.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm just expressing concerns. I'm not unhappy with it to any degree. I'll be around here and do everything in my ability to help and support the users that frequent this place regardless of what happens. Its good to know how much effort we are putting into advertising, as that'* really the deal breaker for such a large site.

Also, I hear you loud and clear about VB. I'm just trying to make a suggestion to make this place better. There'* always room for improvement. I know from personal experience that SMF is an administration nightmare and VB has more versatility, flexibility, stability, support, and power than SMF ever has or ever will. I have managed and administered both in the past and SMF is just a pain in the ***. In my opinion, the e-mail notifications are equivalent to spam unless they're for very important and time critical threads. Imagine if we do get this place very busy and you receive upwards of 50 replies to your threads per day. That'* a lot of e-mail to sort through, and a lot of time to waste just finaggling with your inbox. I get 10-20 important e-mails in my inbox per day, and flooding that with another 50 could only be useful to those who have Outlook and set up rules for automatic filing of those e-mails, or have another way to filter through them. For a one-folder inbox, a flood of 50 e-mails just causes you to spend more time achieving the same thing. Similar to using the last 100 posts, you still need to visually filter through those that have replies and those that don't, and in the subscribed threads list, threads that you have already viewed will continue to show up. These are great ways to get around the absence of the functionality I mentioned, but, there is no denying that said funcationality is ultimately a faster and less time consuming way to respond to your active threads as if it were a queue of tickets you need to complete in a help desk. To me its all about time, and often times I only have 5 or so minutes to be on this forum at any given time of the day. Like I said, what we have is great, and there are ways to work around the absence of that button, but at the same time, that button would be very valuable. in the future, it would save us more time, and allow us to help more people in the time that we have. I discussed this with Luke over on w-body when he recently transitioned to VB and he mentioned that VB doesn't support anything like it, and that they may in the future if there is enough of a demand, so perhaps if we have one more site pushing to have that in a future build, it may happen.
