Default Computer related question

My sister in law has tried downloading AVG Free 4 tims, and each time it freezes up and never finishes.
Does the stuff she'* been downloading stay on her lappy and take up space, or does it not stay since it didn't finish?
If it is there, where would it be?
She has Vista Home Premium.
Thanks.

She has Vista Home Premium.

I suspect that is the problem. It may not be compatible with Vista, even if it says it is.

Has she disabled the firewall?

And no, if it didn't finish downloading, I don't believe it'* taking up any space.

As always, this advise is free and worth every penny.

I think Vista is probably the problem.
Don't know about the firewall, I know she didn't put on on, but it probably came with it. She just got the lap top a few weeks ago.

Vista comes with a firewall built in and it don't like to be turned off but some programs need to have it dissabled or they won't install.

I just go a new laptop for my wife, it came with Vista and we both hate it. Nothing but problems so far getting things installed and working.

If she'* downloading it from download.com have her use the free.grisoft.com thats right below in the installation files section {Clicky the linky}

I don't know Vista but IE usually keeps everything in its temp folder, so yes its taking up space. Just clear the temp internet files.

Vista has improvements, but it also has Microsofts further attempts to keep people from copying cd'* and dvd'*. In doing so Vista is more resistant to to changing it'* code. So integration of new software sometimes conflicts with Microsoft software.

Hmmm. I am sure Vista was the problem.
I think she was able to get a different one installed.
As far as the files, I think she just did a search for AVG and pulled out everything that came up.
I don't have much experience with Vista personally, and don't care to for now.
Once it gets straightened out, I would love to check it out.
We bought our PC shortly after Vista was released, and I bought the only one I could find that still had XP.

Speaking of, anyone know of a good free program that will let me "back up" my DVD'*. I would love to use my light scribe burner.
