Why would steer fluid need to be changed
My question is just that. I was at the dealer had some work done at dealer replace the passlock sensor and had them change the coolant and transmisson fuild it was time for both. They also cl;aimed that steer fuild need to be changed. The car seem to steer fine. The car has 112,000 miles and is 2002

It could be legit. For some reason my Civic burns P/* fluid really damn quickly, at the moment I just siphon some out and add more every little while.
But then again, Honda uses unique, proprietary P/* fluid.

The P/* fluid also lubricates the pump and part of the rack. I have yet to see a P/* system with a filter, just a mesh screen to keep the big chunks form going everywhere if the pump pukes.
Like all fluids in the car it should be changed periodically.

P/* Fluid
I was told the same thing by my Pontiac dealer. But I don't think it was necessarily a scam for money. The fluid just becomes dirty over time and needs to be replaced. I use to regularly check the PS fluid in my Maxima, but this 3800 makes that hard to do since the reseveor is so hard to get to. But you shouldn't have to do a total exchage of the PS fluid very often.
