Hey guys! Well I am finally trying to get this detailing business up & running. My dad said I could run it in Troy as a branch off of his business so that way I'd have the huge garage there to work in & I won't rack up the water bill here in Wentzville I think I have decided on the name as The Final Touch since so many people liked it & all. But anyway so I need help with pricing. I want to be fair & somewhat cheap but have it priced to where I can still make a profit somehow. Since my dad is known for the fairest/cheaper prices in the area, I thought I would try the same thing with the detailing thing.

So yeah here is what I just typed up price wise. Note that once I learn how to use a buffer right, I will add paint buffing & headlight restoration to the list. I am also thinking about doing touch-up paint as an add-on but idk, what do you guys think about that? & eventually depending on what kind of cars I get, I may have a engine cover painting section or something like that. Okay yeah so on to the pricing ideas....


Solo Interior Package: $35

Solo Exterior Package: $30

(Bronze) Package: $30

(Silver) Package: $60

Add engine bay cleaning to any package (except the platinum package) for an extra $20


What do you guys think? Are those fair enough prices? Should I go lower? Should I go higher on some? Should I add any "services" to any of the packages? Also I need new, more cool names so to say, for the names of the packages. That'* why they are in (). I kind of wanted a racing theme name thing going on but idk how I'll do that Okay so I realized that I'm asking a lot out of you guys here so I'll stop for now lol. Any help would be awesome! Seems fair to a little cheap for whats shops get here. Touch up painting is something to move into after you know how to paint. Not a first step. And a headache for the money. Your going to see alot of complaints. Everyone want a "touchup" to look like a new paint job. Add to that the fact that sun fading/different vendors mean different hues and tones from OEM...... takes a skilled mixer to accomplish the right color that will make a customer happy. I'd steer away from it.

That'* about the prices of detail shops in FL, except they use automatic car washes instead of a handwash. They also use multiple people to do the work. So if you're doing all this by yourself you'll be in price range, but very slow turn around I think.

The prices seem fair. here'* what I do. I say bring your car and I'll give a quote. I walk around the car with the owner and point out problems, scratches, chips, what ever. A full detail for me, wash, clay, polish, glaze, wax, and clean inside is between $150 and $200 depending on the condition of the paint. A basic wash is about $25, toss on another $20 to clean the inside and wipe it all down.

Line up a few cars and then start investing in the tools, you will be much happier. Right now I'm in the market for a larger polisher and might be selling my porter cable. If your interested, I'll give you first shot at it. A great, and I mean great polisher. I just want a bigger one.

I guess shops here must be expensive then since they charge about $120-$130 for a FULL detail, but use automatic brush carwash systems and multiple people to do the work so it gets done faster.

Yah Mouse. Shops charge by the location and economy. You cant get Florida rates say in Missouri.

Only seen a few detailing places in MO, and they charged $400-$500 for a full detail.

Thats crazy. Here, the Dealers do full detail for $129. But that doesn't touch the engine bay,

Prices seem pretty fair. Up here in NY we have Delta Sonic'*. They did a special for April on professional detail of inside and out for $99........vans/suv more. They did a pretty decent job on the Maxima. Had 2 ppl doing it and it took about 2 1/2 hrs. Here is there web site. Check it out! maybe some ideas??

Yup I’ll be doing all of the work myself, man am I gonna be tired if I get multiple ones in a day lol
Hmm I gotcha. Well if they are already at my dads shop, I’ll easily be able to do a walk around while it’* getting worked on. Okay yeah I would be interested, but it all depends on when you are wanting to sell it since I’m really tight on money right now, stupid job economy! Shouldve stayed in florida where I had a great job going for me =(
So it seems like you guys think the prices are fair so far. I tried to price them through my eyes, I think anything above $200 is too far outta my reach & I know a lot of people in the area & try to see it through their eyes & all ya know. && I’m thinking about having specials for people who get their cars done at both my business & my dads business. & I’m trying to think of other specials that could go along with the specials & promotions I’m making for my dads business. Fun stuff, I get to market & advertise for 2 businesses lol. Busy stuff most def.
Also, I know some places price differently on cars, trucks & SUVs…do you guys think I should charge extra depending on how large the vehicle is?
& one more thing, thanks for your help guys! The sooner I figure all of this out, the sooner I'll get money which = money for modding the monte carlo =)
