Although the news reports do not reflect it yet. lots of people are gone, half of my coworkers got a phone call not to come in.

I'm the youngest and one of the newest of my peers and I dont know why I still have a job.

Looks like its time for another job. I dont have one lined up either. I thought it was strange that the parking lot was half empty.

That sucks man, my dad is going through the same thing right now. He went into work yesterday and they said bye bye. He knew they were shutting down the plant he works in, but he was supposed to still have a job until the end of the month. This is the 2nd time he has gone through this and he's 51 years old. The first time he had 21 years in at inland steel, and he has 10 years in at this place. He should have been able to retire by now between all this, that's 31 years, but because of this crap, he can't. Be happy your young ;) It's much harder for a man his age.

I was in a middle management role, most of the people "on the front lines" were not affected. Only the bottom 20% of the "entry level" workforce. We'll see tomorrow. I would not mind moving somewhere else though.

Expecting to come in and sign a severance package I was one of the few that was offered a different job for less pay.

I will be doing another role with a 30% pay cut....at least I still have a job. ;)

You'll be eligible to participate in a Productivity Incentive Plan which enables you to earn a significant incentive based on your performance against important productivity metrics. Your current base pay will be adjusted downward by 15 percent effective January 13, 2008 to balance this upside potential. Your target incentive will be based on 17 percent of your new base pay rate. If your performance is below minimum requirements, you may not earn any Productivity Incentive for a particular period. Depending on your performance, you can earn as high as 25 percent of your 2007 base pay rate.
