Default Sick Raccoon

The dogues were barking this evening and I went out to check on them. I noticed they were fixated on a Raccoon in the neighbors yard. As I watched the Raccoon I noticed that it was walking in circles. It was moving in one direction, but in small circles with it'* head down. I've seen this before and it was distemper, but it can also mean rabies as well. The poor little guy was in bad shape. I decided that it needed help in a destination and sent it to the light with one well placed .22 round to the head from 30 yards - in the dark. When I retrieved the body from the neighbors driveway it had puss like discharge from the nose, mouth and eyes - distemper! Hated to ice the little guy, but it was the right thing to do.

It'* better off. Otherwise it would have suffered for a long time before dying.

Read up on the disease, sounds nasty. I agree, glad you put it out of its misery.

yup, that wass the humane thing to do.

Had a fox last year that had that going on, lead poisoning was a much better way to go. Paging doctor Mossberg.....

Woke up this morning and let the dogues out. I no longer got the door closed and the barking had begun. Raccoon #2 is balled up in the neighbors driveway and obviously dying. It'* too light out to put a round in it. I called the local wildlife center and they wanted me to go out and put it into a box and keep it warm. I told the idiot who called that the Raccoon has distemper and needs to have euthanasia and not a warm box. I also asked the idiot how they can consciously tell someone to go out and pick up a diseased animal that could turn and bite! So....when the beast takes it'* last breath, I glove up and remove it to the woods.
