Should I write off the 2000 and take a loss?
I have a guy that will give me $4100 cash for the car, here is what is required to fix it to make it perfect or at least to my standards:

Electrical issues: $50 for parts + $100 labor I think for TechII reprogram
New body panel - $200 painted etc
Transmission - $2000 to get everything I want in it
Heated Seat - $200 I'm guessing
Window regulator - $100 or so

So far I have into it:

$5382 including tax, price, shipping, window requlator, oil sender, etc

If I fix everything i'm up to $8000 and the car still has 155k on it but it would look dang good and be dang reliable for mods. The engine runs perfect right now.

option 2

Buy a 2000 SSEi semi-locally that I can test drive and make sure everything works on it, it sounds like it needs nothing for $6500, it has 130,000 miles on it. Only problem is hood bubbling and paint fade on the hood (it would need to be repainted since it had a bra)

then $2000 for the transmission which I would blow up shortly after modding it,
repainted hood: $500

I'm up to $9000, and the car has 130,000 and is in about the same condition of my current 00, maybe a little worse shape from rock chips and minor surface rust under the hood.

Keep it. From the looks of things your biggest obstacle as far as costs go is the transmission. Why not buy a used one, put it in so you can drive it, and rebuild the old one? Or find one used, and let a shop go over it, and put THAT unit in yourself during the spring? Often it is cheaper to bring them a core trans and have them rebuild it, since they don't have to take the trans out and put back in the car.

Window regulator is an easy enough fix to do, and a regulator can be had here for probably less than you quoted.

Heated seats you can do yourself too....just ask Pat...and at low cost.

On the whole, it isn't a bad car from the posts I have read, and the trans, though annoying, does not affect around the town driving right?

OK - now I see it. You'll be losing $1,282 if you sell the 1st car. So the 2nd car will actually be costing you $6,500 + $1,282. Add in the trans + paint & you'll be up $10,282.

I'd keep the current car.

Ive got a little over 12,000mi on my tranny since I lost OD. I've saved enough to replace it so I figure it's just free time until it dies totally. I still get roughly 24mpg on the hwy and not having OD where I live is kind of a non issue. I vote you keep it but if your not gonna be happy with it why?

More than likely I've missed something due to the fact that I dont read every post in every section, but you still have your 93 correct? This is just my opinion but I say keep the 93 as you already have lots of time and effort into it. I know you had a small accident a while back and the bumper was scratched and your exhaust tips were bent or something like that, but the $4100 you would get from the 2000 would more than pay for the body work and youd have some extra cash to play around with. Thats what I would do but then again I prefer the 92-99 body style over the 2k+. That being said, if your 93 isnt with you anymore or there are other problems Im not aware of, I would say keep the 2k+ you have and fix what it needs. Atleast with this one you know what youve got and what you need. The next car you find may have other problems that are even worse although it has less miles. But the biggest thing is you need to decide which car will please you the most. Your 93, your 2000, or another 2k+.

I think you should keep it at least one year. That will put you about even for what you put into it.
If you still feel the same after a year, sell it. It will be in better shape, so you should still get good cash for it.

The trans in that car is just the beginning of a money pit. Ditch it.

That car was a RENTAL from CALIFORNIA. Purchased sight-unseen. Get out now.
