should i even change the oil?

so, my van DRINKS oil.. 1 qt every other fill up... i keep adding oil

do you think it is necessary to do a full oil change on it? or just put a new filter on it and top it off...

the weird part is that i see no leaks wherever i park, at home or work, and it does not have blue smoke.

I would still change it every once and a while, maybe every 5000 miles. But I'm a maintenance freak.

My truck leaks like a sieve, change the filter every 6 months.

How many miles total is that for you with every other fill-up?

Darrel 11-29-2006 07:11 AM

i don't think i'd worry too much about it. but i might think about putting a high milage oil in it, something thats really thick so it doesn't get used up so fast!

Haha, believe me. It's a Chrysler 2.5, they burn oil, even though you can't see it or smell it, but it does. My mom's '84 Lebaron had oil disappearing all the time, no leaks anywhere, so it had to be burning it.

How does the coolant look?

everything looks fine. the oil cap does have a milky substance on it, but the oil on the dipstick is fine. i get about 200 miles to a tank, i think.. there is no trip meter ;)

Thats just condensation right? Nothing bad, right?

My oil used to disappear fairly quickly also (at Mobil1 prices  ) So now I put in cheaper, thicker synthetic blend and I lose a fraction of the oil.

I'd still change it. Muck can still build.
