Default Screensaver Issues

Okay, my computer is again being annoying. It has recently begun this problem where the screensaver won't come on at all or it will come on for a bit and then shut itself off and never come on again. I know the screensaver is set to come on, and that it'* not the particular screensaver (I have tried another preset one). The only big thing I've had happen lately is I have downloaded Service Pack 2 and somehow I've also aquired (on a few different occasions) a few viruses (but those have been checked and taken care of by AGV). Any thoughts? Thanks

Did the issues with the screensaver start after you downloaded SP2? If so, uninstall SP2 and see if that corrects the problem. There are still some bugs in SP2. I am going to wait awhile before I try it.

Yeah, that might very well be what I have to do. I don't think my bro who did the same has had the same problems, but who knows how it changes from comp to comp. Anything else I might try before deleting SP2?

I read a few post on the Dell Forum with people having problems with their screensavers after downloading SP2. I guess the suggested technique is to turn off the screensaver and close all windows applications before starting the download. I am still going to wait a few more months before I download it.

And this is why I use Gentoo. Damn I love linux. But I have xp pro on my notebook as a terciary [sp?] and it is very unreliable, but it works just good enough to stay on my hdd. Just in case I decide to mess with the code of Gentoo, and screw up that install, I have a backup for the time being.

SP2 has since been deleted. To answer your question, it was not working with a custom screensaver and one that came with windows.

Have you ever reformatted your HD and did a clean install of XP? I do a clean install once a year.
