You know you need a new printer when....
You know you need to think about getting a new printer when your college professors turn your papers back to you because they can't read what was printed. I didn't notice and handed in a paper the other day and only every other line printed. I think my Epson CX5400 all-in-one printer has had its day.. everything looks like CRAP and this is even after doing all the alingments, new ink, and head cleaning.. grrr.. look how bad the print quality is on this article I had to print off for a class... often times the text is even worse than this, too! Anyone have any suggestions for a good, cheap, printer? I'm thinking laser this time. (If I can even scrounge up enough money for a new printer that is...)

With some of the Epson printers, if you remove the cartridge, you cannot put it back in. You have to replace the cartridge.

Just get a cheapy, but all I can say is do not get the one with only the color ink cartridge. The color mixing wastes your ink to create black, and doesn't look as good as traditional black.

If you are in college/university, splurge on a laser printer, even if it'* not colour. Best decision I've ever made regarding computer equipment, comes in really handy if you have to do a presentation and provide handouts, print out large papers (most of mine are 20-50 pages), or print out online readings.

one thing you can try id taking the print head out and use a damp paper towel and let the print head soak on that for a bit.
then run some cleaning tests and see how it looks. it might bring it back to life for ya
