Rodent Under Hood Problem
 

Just curious if any of you have had to deal with any rodents getting under your hoods?
I keep getting little turds that look like mouse droppings, and I see shells of eaten bugs, and some shells from nuts. :mad:
The main place it leaves them is on top of my airbox.

Not sure what to try to get rid of it, I was thinking poison, just not sure of what to use poison wise, I am open for ideas.

i used to get mice in my jeep sometimes, a mouse trap with peanut butter usually took care of it

You might want to open up your airbox and take a peek inside. They tend to make nests inside of them.

I think I'll try that first, sounds a lot better than going with poison.


Very good point, a year or so ago I had a lawn tractor parked near where my car is parked, and one made a nest up under where the magneto is, at least I think that is what you call it.
I gutted my airbox a bit, but left part intact, so it is a bit more roomy inside there.

I'm going to try to find some screen to try to close of that opening to the airbox if I find a nest, I don't want any coming back to make it their home.
If I come up with a good solution, and it works well, then I'll get pics.

Some people put moth balls under the hood like in a little pouch. Just don't want it too close to the air intake or you will smell them inside. Toyota seem to have a attraction to rodents never seen so many rodent problems till I started working at Toyota.

I also heard if you install a cat under the hood, you won't have any problems.

i dont have any rodent problems in my house having two cats, the few that venture in dont last more than a few seconds. not sure how you would keep them around the car though if that was going to be your security system

I second Justin's method of a mouse trap with peanut butter. I always go with the rat glue traps and place a dab of peanut butter in the middle. Works every time, and the larger size glue trap simply works better than the mouse size glue trap.

Having lived on a rural lake property in the North, always had huge mouse problems when it turned cold. Use to use the poison bait packets, but the mice would die in the walls and smell for ever. The glue traps let you know you caught them and also let you know when the problem is truly gone. No mouse can resist peanut butter.
