Home Thermostats: Need some answers
We've got an older thermostat with no fan/heat switch like I'm used to seeing. Just the round uh.. thermostat :P Was wondering if, by chance, there'* any way to tell without taking it down (don't want to **** mom off) if I could install one with a fan control?
The reason I ask is that I'd like to circulate the basement air, but we can't figure out how to make just the fan run. It'* a fairly new furnace, but maybe it'* time for a thermostat upgrade. Who knows what wires run to these old things? I can find diagrams for new ones easily enough, but this old puppy'* got me stumped.

i can do that on mine easy, take the cover off of the furnace, there MAY or may not be a box in there that has a switch on it, one side says AUTO one side says Manual, if u turn it to manual, it will run the fan only, atleast on mine it will.

Thanks guys, will be stopping by home depot to look at cheap fans and asking about thermostats. I forgot that existed here, and felt like I was in Houghton looking at only Walmart :p

The programmable thermostats plug right in. We (the landlord and I) put them in both apartments in our building in about 20 minutes each. Woulda been quicker, but we had to mount them to Honest to God plaster walls.....
But, for about 30 dollars each (maybe. probably cheaper) we can run just the fan from the heaters to suck cool air out of the basement into the apartment, which is what it sounds like you want.
