Regal fdr? + car shopping (need input)**

I may be looking at getting a regal for real cheap. Just curious of the fdr. I googled and googled and regalgs'ed it but couldn't find anything.

big_news_1 07-22-2006 03:32 AM

If I had to guess, I would say it has taller gearing than the GP, simply because it's a Buick and possibly targeted for highway cruising. Maybe the same as a Bonnie?

Hans 07-22-2006 03:33 AM

if I had to guess it would be 2.84

ELMACHOGERACHO 07-22-2006 08:32 AM

a regal grand sport? i believe its a 3.06. i have the car and driver where they tested it and i thought i remember them saying something about it. ill look for it after work.

1993 SLE 07-22-2006 08:41 AM

could you just check the RPO codes to make sure

95naSTA 07-22-2006 12:38 PM

Yeah I'm pretty sure its the GS. I guess i'll have to check the rpo since it's not real common knowledge..
I talked to the guy (I know/worked with him for a while) and he said it's got around 90k on it and he'd let it got for $600. Said everythings solid. He bought it for his son a while back and preped it for paint (hes a body guy) but his son ended up buying a truck. So it's just kind of sitting there and he wants to get rid of it.
Gonna try and go look at it today and start it up etc.

big_news_1 07-22-2006 12:42 PM

What year is it, again? You'd be delving into the Series 1 world, or do a Series 2 swap?

I'm not sure what year it is exactly. It's a 92-95 though. I just forgot to ask the guy.
This is just a car i plan on keeping for 4-5 months or so.
If i do anything outside of a tuneup to the engine it'll be: L67 coil swap, intake, afc, willwren style pems, and a high flow cat thats sitting in my garage.
Not really looking to do a swap or anything big. Just looking for a cheap reliable daily driver.
I gotta get back into a 94-95 bonnie when i have more $.

95naSTA 07-22-2006 06:13 PM

Ok kind of went car shopping today. Heres what I know so far.
89 s-10:
Odometer was rolled back (none of the numbers line up)
2.5l 4 cyl
stick
runs, drives, shifts fine
Makes weird noise in reverse after 20 ft or so
needs d/s shock
missing drivers side mirror
5 star 15s with new 265's in the back
bucket seats
primered w/ some rust spots
crappy azteca lights in the back
Asking $700

89 buick regal custom:
I still have to go back and get more info on it.
I went to the parking lot where the guy keeps it but he couldn't be there. He left the keys in the visor and a jump box in the back for me to check it out. It has been sitting for a while and the battery is dead.
Anyways I couldn't get it to start cause the jump box was beat but it did turn over and the digital dash said it has 117k on it. I called him back up and he said he'll try and get it started on monday and let me know.
3.1l (turns out it wasn't a 3.8l)
2 dr
blue but primered sports cause it's preped for paint
In all, cleaner than the s-10
Asking $600

I know you're determined on getting another Bonnie, but this might just be a good home for your old motor? Don't know about wiring differences, though.

GonneVille 07-23-2006 12:32 PM

3.1 wouldn't be a GS, either, might be LS

95naSTA 07-23-2006 12:39 PM

I'm not really looking for a fast car. But if I really wanted to I could swap the 3400 top end on there to get somewhere in the 180 hp range?
But yeah not really looking for a fast car right now because of $ reasons.

PRD2BDF 07-23-2006 01:07 PM

Well here's my highly valued opinion (yes I'm bullshitting myself)

I would say to get the Regal, sure it has the 3.1 no biggie, as you said you're not looking for a fast car, just a car to drive around. The Regal sounds 100x better than that POS S-10. and it's even cheaper too. I would say to get the Regal and paint it yourself and if you MUST have a 3.8, just go to the junkyard and pull a S1 L67 (rare yes but could be lucky) and swap it in and you're set and all for less $$$$$$$ than that S-10. Whatcha u think Mike?

harofreak00 07-23-2006 02:21 PM

3.1 has some serious pep from what i remember

I think the ser1 L67 would be alot of work. I'm pretty sure they never got anything outside of a L27 and I think it just has a 4t60 (no e). Plus it would take alot of down time. But if I had the time, $, and drive, it would probably be a fun car.
I'm really trying not to put a bunch of $ into another car either. I'm just looking to get 5 months or so out of it.
I might just ask the guy how much for a quicky paint job or flat black lacquer primer.
But thats all if it runs ok.
It sucks cause 40hrs working + night school + physical therapy is eating all my getting back into a car time. :stoned:

Ah, yes, I forgot that. My grandpa has a almost mint Regal Custom with the 3.1. It was definitely peppy but not as peppy as the 3.8 but close.

So I'm going to emphasize on the Regal big time, I'm sure you could find a newer Regal for a couple hundred more but otherwise that Regal you're looking at sounds like a hell of a steal.

big_news_1 07-23-2006 03:09 PM

Get the Regal. That's $100 saved that you can put into the next Bonneville. Plus, it sounds like it's in better shape.

SSsuperchargedEi 07-23-2006 03:17 PM

is the s10 2wd?

Yup

So the regal started right up, engine is quiet, shifts fine, and drives fine.
I'm going to go and do the paperwork friday I think.

big_news_1 07-25-2006 05:35 PM

Sounds good, man. I think you're making a good choice. From your descriptions, the Regal sounds like more vehicle for less money.

Now you need to graft some crazy headlights on it and name it "Bondogal."
