RANGER DANGER!! - Brush Fire in The Cab! +pics
 

like the title says....

As I was returning from Don's yesterday evening, I had the A/C on in the truck of course. After about 1/2 hour, I noticed a faint smell of wood smoke and dismissed it as maybe a local brush fire or contractor's fire. These are fairly common around here. The smell linger for about 10 miles, which I thought was odd, but not enough so that it triggered any response.

Then, as I was about 1 mile from my house, as I was turning left at a red light, Smoke began pouring out of the dash vents and filled the cab with thick white wood smoke in seconds. "OH SHIFT!!"

I quickly pulled off the road, slammed all the A/C and blower switches to off, shut the truck off, rolled down the windows, popped the hood, and ran around front to make sure there wasn't an underhood fire. I was pretty sure there wasn't, but had to make sure. Pheeew! No fire under hood.

Ran back into the cab to see if the smoke had subsided any after I cut off it's air supply. It had..thank freakin' goodness! I ran my hand all around the ductwork and blower unit to make sure I didn't feel any hotspots, but as I suspected, there hadn't been enough time for flames and the lack of air stopped the smoldering.

It is leaves in the blower box!!!! :x :evil: :x This is a common problem with the Rangers. I've read about it, including one guy on the Ranger site that had some pretty bad damage since he didn't know/think to turn the blower and A/C off immediately. Since I had company due at my house in ten minutes after getting home and still had to shower, I have not done anything about it yet.

When I pull that blower motor, I am going to find a way to close/screen that system to keep the leaves out. That was just a tad too much excitement for a relaxing trip home, IMO. :D

Well, it did make me move pretty quickly for a minute or so, I'll have to admit. But then I just got back in the truck and continued on home...lol.

Just think about what the other drivers where thinking lol.

LOL! Yeah, I hadn't really given that much thought, but I'll bet those passing by were thinking that there was going to be a truck fire...lol.

Plus, I burst out of the truck pretty fast and was moving around at a pretty good clip...

It's a Ford.. you know they were probably off to be marshmallows..

BTW..for the record... I don't think Mike's that old (I don't listen to Bob about how old Mike is)... Mike sure didn't move that fast. I think he was hoping it burned and could get a new SSEi. .

Unfortunately, for the value of the '94 Ranger, I could probably only afford the Motor out of an SSEi.

Boosty, you're always on the phone with whoever is having one of those crazy moments in life(I.E. Car catching on fire). I'm starting to link you to these incidents....
