RACING TICKET?

To make a long story short i was at a stop light next to a mustang and in front of a crown vic (marked). Dude in the stang takes off like a bat outta hell, I was like man your nutts, but i accel a bit quicker than nomal (by no means "racing') the cop stopped at the green for a few seconds finally goes, he flys on my ass, flashes his lights then pulls next to me fingers me to pull over. So i did then he takes off (after the stang i assumed). Sure enough about a minute later the mustang pulls behind me with the cop behind him.Anyways, I gotta ticket for "racing a motor vehicle". He got towed for no insurance and got a ticket for that and racing as well. This isnt just a pay your fine ticket, I have to go to court. My respect for these damn pigs is zero, I hate these Windsor cops. If they wanna give tickets for racing they should ticket those racing, iv seen people race and not get pulled over for even a warning. I have a good lawyer but its gonna cost me 5000 to hopefully get outta this. Is there such this as a ticket for flippin off cops?

As if no cop ever gave their daily driver a little more gas when they were next to a nice muscle car...friggin' idiots.

That's obsurd!! Sounds like the cops around here. :x Why do you think it's going to cost $5000? Do you have a clean record? If so you should go to court, plead not guilty, explain you weren't racing, and maybe the DA will dismiss it. :? I can't see it costing you that much money

But good luck and let us know what happens.

How hard were you off the line? By "a bit quicker than normal", my definition would be 3000-3500rpm out of first, max... :|

Hard to say without being there, but if you didn't squeal the tires, weren't a WOT when you took off, and weren't obviously trying to keep up with the 'stang, then it'd be hard to prove racing I'd think (And with 10+ years of Law Enforcement experience, I think I'd know).

Hell, I never waste any time getting up to the speed limit, even if I'm the only one there. Just because the person driving the Mustang has more ego than brains, doesn't mean you were playing along.

Not having insurance doesn't help your case, and you'll get reamed for that, and i can't say i blame him. It's all hin his right to do what he thinks, going slighty faster then normal to some people is flying for others.

It wasnt me that had no insurance it was the other guy.

So you didn't break the tires loose, and you didn't break the speed limit. So how is this racing??? What I would do is go to a track (and make it obvious it is a track you are at) and take a video of your car running. Start out the 1/4 and just nail the gas and spin the tires like mad to get a lot of noise and smoke if at all possible and make sure this is very clear on the video, then say that is how I race my motor vehicle, now is that what I did officer? No, that probably isn't a good idea, but I would do it just to piss them off if I knew I was getting the ticket anyways. I have a feeling it will be dismissed if they know you didn't break the tires loose and didn't go over the speed limit.

The best thing on your side right now is that you pulled over and waited. You were "a good boy" and it'll definitely weigh in your favor. I've seen a lot of, let's call them "over zealous" cops have stuff like this thrown out.

Be ready for the worst of course, but you will probably be pleasantly suprised.

depending on how far away the mustang got, and if the cop got a good look at your plate... you might have been able to pull a U'ee... but sence the cop was behind you, he probably pluged your plate into the computer (just for somthing to do at a stop light).
