question for the dell owners
my neighbor has a dell 4550 and he wants to upgrade his video card and ram. he bought the computer last march or so and still under warrenty and we were wondering if he has to have the dell people put in the upgrades or can we do it?
You'd have to contact Dell. Do it by e-mail, that way you can print their response if there's any problems.
Oh he can, and should do it really. It's easy. As long as he gets the right ones, they'll only fit in one spot (Save PCI video cards)
im not worried about doing it myself its tooooo easy im justworried about voiding his warrenty(even though it sucks, dells award winning tech support sucks)
Just to be safe though, ask Dell at
http://support.dell.com/dellcare/customerService.aspx Different companies have different policies. And print it. That way, if they say "Sure go ahead", and something goes wrong, you have it in writing they said you could. |
Dells aren't sealed from the factory so you can do these things. It won't be covered by your warranty, unless you buy their inflated prices, and installation. But it won't void your warranty, it won't be covered, or anything caused by it.

ok good now i gotta figure out how to open the case i have look in the back for a thumb screw or something but i cant find anything. is their a site that tell people how to open dell cases?
What Dell doesn't know doesn't hurt them. :)

there will be arrows on the bottom of the case, make them point up. Push the gray button on the top, and one on the bottom and pull open. Everything is tool free in these cases. Save the MOBO.
