'Puter Help (Desktop gone nuts)

For some reason today, whenever I double click on an icon on my destop, the computer brings up the properties instead of opening the program. I have to right click on the icon and select "Open", which is marked in bold. I am running Win 98 (yeah, yeah, I kno it sucks).

No to be a doomsayer, but go to http://www.sarc.com and run an online scan. I've seen viruses act this way...

Sounds like your mouse went wacky. Open up the Device Manager (in case you don't know: Right-click on My Computer-->Properties-->Device Manager tab). Click the plus sign next to Mouse, then double click on the option below that, and the Properties window should come up. Click on the Driver tab, and select Uninstall. Go through the motions, then restart your computer. When it starts back up, it should find the hardware and reinstall. That should do it. Oh, and on Win98, better have your cd ready.

Couldn't agree with that anymore.

As for the virus thing, yea it could be. But most viruses going around are the worms, and they only affect 2000/Xp systems.

Actually it sounds like your mouse buttons got re-assigned. You'll do good by following Truewildman's suggestion, but instead of "right" clicking to get to the Properties, you'll have to left click to get there.

Heheh...Absolutely. "Right-click" assumes your mouse is working correctly. Let us know if it worked.
