I haven't been on Prozac but I was on Paxil for a month or so. When I attempted to come off of it, I had extreme mood swings. I would be fine and in a good mood then all the sudden out of nowhere I would feel overwhelmed with emotion and would just completely break down. When on Paxil I felt 'numb' to all emotions. I didn't really feel anything at all. It's really wierd. You feel like you're in a good mood, but you don't have emotion. I never felt sad, angry, depressed, stressed out, or anything but 'happy.' Although, it was a fake feeling. When I came off of the Paxil it took me several attempts because the flood of emotion was overwhelming most of the times I tried it, and I had "electric shock" sensations in my head and blurred vision when I turned my head. the biggest side effect I had while on Paxil were the sexual side effects, which most anti-depressents have. I was not able to.... *ahem* 'finish.' if you know what I mean. anyways, I t hink it's best to deal with what's causing the depression, rather than just masking the feelings with something that's fake. I will admit that it really did make me feel better while I was on it though, although the sexual side effects were VERY frustrating!

I am on Effexxor right now and I have the same "I was not able to.... *ahem* 'finish" problem with it at times. Thank for paxil info as that was mentioned to me as another med to try. Effexxor is extremely hard to wean off of and I get that "electric shock" sensations daily.

I am hoping prozac will not be as bad in that sense.

I believe it helps to some degree, and if the doc ever decides to take you off of them or you decide you no longer think they work, the doc will reduce your dose until your weened off of them.

I use to take Prozac and then went to Lexapro for migraines. I get stress related migraines. I took myself off of those meds about a year or so ago. I just take the others when I'm feeling stressed. I have a high stress job.

Im thinking of seeing a doctor about going on them. I wouldnt care of the side effects if it would make me less depressed and happier.
I have two FT stressful jobs. Work and parenting.

I was on prozac for a about a year and a half, and it just kinda quit working. I still struggle with it, but I've learned some ways of managing it.
