In a predicament- need advice

My son's car is in the shop again and he has been driving my toyota truck. Today he broke the key off in the ignition. He says it won't start with it in there. Does anyone know a trick to get the remainder of the key out of there without having to replace the ignition? Please advise.

Try a magnet? a pair of pliers?

tweezers is your best bet..make sure the ign is turned off or the key probally wont come out...your gunna have to pull hard on it too.

I'll try a magnet. I don't know how far it is broke off in there. I thought about superglue on the tip of a toothpick but if I don't do it right I could end up gluing the key in there. I'll be right back.

If you're gonna use a magnet I'd suggest the largest, most powerful one that you've got.
Hope you get it out without any major trouble.

No luck. And I don't have any larger magnets.

Vacuum? How much of the key broke off in there..if its in there too far, you will probally need to remove the ign switch.

my dad says he gets em out wit a pick....long skinny screw driver/awl with a really small bent tip on it... if you cant get it out like that...he said to just a new cylinder, its not that big a deal

Magnets won't work on keys usually. Most car keys are brass, with a nickel finish.

Try a very fine pair of needlenose pliers or dental picks.
