Default Veterans

I am not a veteran but I know there are a few in this club. I came across the following and thought I'd share.

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN,
who salutes the Flag,

who serves under the Flag,

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD,
AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT

SHINE UPON THEM.

I don't know if you saw this in the news but it really impressed me. Funny,
our US Senate/House took 2 days off as they couldn't work.

On the ABC evening news, it was reported tonight that, because of the dangers
from Hurricane Isabelle approaching Washington, DC, the military members
assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given
permission to suspend the assignment.

They refused. "No way, Sir!"

Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they
said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor
that can be afforded to a serviceperson.

The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930.

I don't usually suggest that many emails be forwarded, but I'd be DAMN proud
if this one reached as many as possible.

We can be very proud of our young men and women in the service no matter
where they serve.

God Bless them.

God bless em indeed, we have our own version of Veterns Day, we call it Remembrance Day, held on Nov 11, at 11am we stop for a moment of silence for those countrymen and women lost protecting our freedoms as well

Whether it be the home of the free and the brave or the true north strong and free , its our servicepeople that made it possible for all of us.

I'm working on my 14 year in the Navy and I say "your welcome" .
I'm going to have to send the pic of the vet standing as a reminder.
But I was at a large function this weekend in DE and when the anthim was played - everyone stopped and stood @ attn. I was the only one with my hand on my heart, but @ least people tried to give it respect.

I would like to extend my thanks to those of you serving, and who have served, you have lived a dream of mine. When i turned 18 i went and enlisted and upon receivig the physical i was told i was unfit because i had an accident while playing footbakll when i was 16 in which my knee was totally messed up.. anyway back to the point of this, my father (tank commander) and my grandfather (Bombardier) both served (Vietnam and World War II, respectivly) and I had hoped to continue the tradition and serve, but unfortunatly it was not to be so. So to those of you who are serving this great nation of ours, and those of you who HAVE served and done your time, I can only hope that you accept this as my thanks for all that you have done, as I am not present to shake your hand for being a hero. I try to do this to as many vets as i can whenever i see them, so that they know that the younger generation is not obvious to what they have done and so that they know what they did had some meaning to someone, even if it is onlya 20 year old.

Sorry this is so long guys had to get it out
