Default Anybody deal with extruded aluminum at work?

I have resurected a project that was way back on the farmost burner for about a year. I need some Z profile extruded aluminum and can't seem to find anyone that will sell me anything less than a truckload. I tried my usual sources: Online metals, Mcmaster-Carr, MSC Direct and the Thomas Registry but nobody can help. I've gone to the hardware store, the Depot and Lowes but they don't have any Zs. I bet if I was back in Pittsburg, the Bargain Corner would have some (man, I miss that place). I only need about 4 feet of the stuff. Here'* what I'm looking for

A, B & C = .750" and T = .0625" to .125"

I'l gladly pay for shipping, time and effort.

Thanks.

My father in law is a metalurgist so he deals with metals all the time. He has really good luck working with Alro Steel. Call the Jackson, MI branch. They should be able to help you out. (517) 787-5500. Visit their website too. www.alro.com

Good luck.

I'll give them a call Monday, Mark but it kinda looks like the same types of companies I've already contacted... high quantity or minumim orders. One guy in Bristol, CT said that the smallest quantity he could sell to me is one 16' piece and it would cost $77. Add $20 on to it so I could cut it in half in order to fit into my truck. I could have used a colostomy bag cause I nearly **** my pants.

Just a suggestion, but my ex-hubby has his own Eavestrough company and they use aluminum for soffit and facia and he uses a brake machine to form his bends. Maybe some Eavestrough companies in your area could help you out. I work with extruded rubber, steel, and aluminum but we don't have any rollingmills that could bend what your looking for. Good Luck! ................Keep us posted.

Great link Bill. Another arrow in my quiver to do battle with my mechanical projects. I took a quick look and didn't see Z profiles but will have a closer look in the morning.

Deb, thanks for the tip. I really never though of bending as an option but I might have to go that route. This is the second time in a couple of months that I could have used a bending brake at my house. Hmmm... I wonder what will be on my shopping list next?

The problem with brakes......as soon as you get one, you need a longer one.

The good news is that my pal Google has led me to 3 sources for the Z aluminum. After two days of searching my shoulders and traps are burning.

I just might finish this project after all. Thanks for all of the tips and advice.
