Default Do we have the ability to make donations?

I know when the site first started running ads there was talk of members being able to give donations to help out with keeping the site going..but I never heard anything more about it, I was just curious.

well the site must have a paypal account....or at least our webmaster does...i hope

i mean I see where this could get ugly tho...because if a record was posted about who was the biggest contributor...that would be good...but then the people who can't afford to donate might be considered something in a "lower class" than the weathier group of the site.

but then I was thinking...

for example...go to the National Impala SS club website...THEY charge a yearly fee! and it really is not that big of a deal...but the thing is...that way no one has to donate because everyone is equal once again, but always leaving the option open for donatons, but maybe not posting them publicly....i dunno just my two cents...

well i definetely dont think that a record should be kept of who donated and how much, or at least not a public record, a private one sure, but I dont see how its the members' business who donated and how much.

but it would be nice to have a way for people to donate, ya know 5 bucks here, 10 bucks there.

This site has saved me hundreds upon hundreds of dollars in repairs over the years, not too mention given me the confidence to work on my own vehicle, something i never really thought i could do, that alone to me is worth a little chip in the bucket every once in a while.

haha, i personally couldnt care less about being recognized, but I think if you were going to recognize donating members, it should be done on a level playing field, and have everyone who has contributed recognized equally, which yeah is not entirely fair, but its also not fair to rub members' contributions in the faces of members who maybe cannot do so.

But like I said I for one could go without being recognized and not have a problem with it. Some others might not feel the same way

I agree with you 110% on that.

On the topic of being reconized. IF that was all that important, then you make one icon for any donor, no matter how big or small. Because in reality, every penny helps, so it shouldn't matter.

Would I give back to BC, yes, it has saved my @$$ numerious times AND since being a memeber I have met some truely awsome people that I am really glad I had the oppertunity to meet and hang out with.

I read an article the other day, I believe on MSNBC about how much a high volume site can take in from Google or Yahoo ads. Perhaps there has been enough to help offset the costs of running the site, or maybe Jeff is taking a wait and see view?

I realize that this is a utopian view, but the act of giving should not be based upon "what am I gonna get out of it" - especially in this case. We have all received a lot from this site!

Besides learning, many come to this site to save money because they can't afford to pay someone to do the work. They may not have the extra cash to donate money, but their extra knowledge can benefit the group.

My 2 cents worth (ok - maybe a nickel) is - if you donate, should it come to that, do it because it is the right thing to do, not for what recognition you may get in return.

.

Those adds only make money if people use them and make a purchase which I doubt has even happened once on this site.
