Default What PC video card to buy?

Hey computer ppl... any recommendations on a good aftermarket video card for my PC? My current one is a Viper V770 Ultra (32mb, 4x AGP) and is about 5 years old. I don't need the hottest product out there, but am out of date with the current spec standards. My motherboard is an Abit VT6X4, which I'm pretty sure will support up to 8x AGP... I'm having trouble running some newer software in my recently-acquired WinXP, so I figured it might be time for an upgrade. TIA!

If your having problems running software within XP, then you might want to look at your hardware specs, not neccessarily your video card, unless those software programs are games...

the 'x4' in your motherboard denotes that it is only 4x agp so you should look into that first?

My card overheats when I run it at 8x. Game performance relies a little more on my CPU [if I am running anything in the background, sometimes the game will lag a little]. This isn't the end of the world, especially if you are not too particular on game performance.

If you have at least a 1.6ghz CPU, I wouldn't worry too much about upgrading. Although, you can pick up an XP2600+ [I recommend Barton Core.. not that Sempron BS] for under $100. Not to mention I have my overclocked to a 2.6ghz clock speed [runs faster than most new processors.. you can't beat it for the price].

Most new cars are like GM Cars, they are all the same.

Well not really but performance for price is not that much different.

You have either ATI or NVIDIA. Whichever feels good to you.

With that being a 4X board, well I would not go too big, just get like a GF4 TI 4600 or something like that, 2 years old but that chipset is still better than the cheaper chipsets today.

Anything will be an improvement over that card though.

check http://www.newegg.com

they usually have good prices.
