J-Body Ecotec 2.2L
Does anyone know much about the GM 2.2 Ecotec?
I searched jbody.org buy couldn't find much for reliability, ease to work on, etc.
What do you guys know about it?

I've always liked the Cavaliers and have had two of them. I had a 1990 that lasted to 178,000 then the head gasket went. Then I had a 1997 that I just sold in January with 184,000. It ran like a top. I regret selling it. I never had one issue with that 2.2 OHV in the 97.
Stepping into new territory with the Ecotec makes me a little nervous! So, just looking for some insight.

The Ecotec is a GM engine. (The Pontiac Vibe has the same 1.8L engine found in the Toyota Matrix or the Celica. It'* a Toyota engine.)
As far as the Ecotec is concerned, it is a good engine. So far they are very reliable. However, they are optimized for city gas mileage not highway. Except for that, the oil filters are the only thing that are quite expensive to replace. You certainly can't get them at Walmart.
