POLICE CHECKPOINTS IN CHICAGO THIS WEEKEND (4-21-06)
Police plan checkpoints near Loop
Published April 19, 2006 CHICAGO -- Illinois State Police troopers will set up roadside safety checkpoints Saturday night in downtown Chicago, officials said Tuesday. Drugs and alcohol will be the main focus of the operation, scheduled for 10 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday off the Kennedy Expressway, officials said. Troopers also will cite drivers for other violations, such as equipment problems, failure to use seat belts and driver's license issues, officials said in a news release. The checkpoints are paid for by federal grants administered by the state Department of Transportation. |
