Default sold my Turbo 5-speed Cutlass, bought a '92 Trofeo!

i got really lucky and sold my Cutty to a local friend for the $2000 i wanted about an hour later i went down to the dealership and picked up a '92 Olds Toronado Trofeo for a few hundred bucks. runs and drives great but it has some body damage, hence the cheap price. i think the only thing it needs mechanically is a new PS high pressure line (which is barely leaking anyway so no big deal for now). it'* got 149,xxx miles and is fully loaded with power moonroof, VIC touchscreen (really cool!), black leather interior and power everything. AC blows nice and COLD. freaking HUGE trunk! it has the L27 of course; too bad these cars didn't come with the SI L67. i might swap one in later (or hell, even a SII L67) but for now i just need to work on making it look good again and concentrate on improving my credit and get ready for fall semester. i think it hit a deer or something; it needs a new header panel, hood, fender, door and headlight assembly. it'* 1 of only 5197 Trofeos made in '92; not all that rare but not exactly something you see everyday. it has about 100,000 less miles than my Cutlass had, it'* one year newer and i still have enough left over to pay off my old student loan, cell phone bills and get my credit rating back in order so i'm happy. it'* not the pretiest thing in the world by any means (not yet anyway haha) but i'm really happy with it considering the price i paid. i was looking for a '92-'95 SSEi but i just wasn't finding anything. everything i found was either beat to crap, out of my price range or just way too far away to even consider. then i stumbled across this Trofeo and just kinda fell for it. i didn't think i'd own a coupe anytime soon but i'm really diggin' this one. surprisingly this thing handles and brakes 10x better than either my Regal GS or Cutlass, it really surprised the hell out of me. i can take sharp interstate on/off ramps wayyyy faster in this Trofeo than my GS and the brakes are amazing in comparison. i was looking at the rear suspension and it looks like it has air ride - there looks to be air bags built into the struts. it rides like a dream on the interstate and goes straight as an arrow down the road. the car even came with a new Pioneer DEH-P6400 so that'* just another plus.

anyway, onto some pics:

i really like the stock wheels:

the "not so good side"

the ugly :( at least the front bumper and gfx aren't damaged at all:

looks like it'* gotta black eye haha:

i'd post some interior pics but i have the center console pulled out right now and i'm in the middle of cleaning the hell out of it. i'm probably going to pull the seats out tomarrow and steam clean the carpets. i should be heading to the salvage yards in Colorado in about 2 weeks (i'm going down to Colorado Springs to dyno my Regal GS) - hopefully i'll get lucky and find a '90-'92 Toronado or Trofeo so i can get this thing looking good again.

thanks for lookin'

Those things handle like a dream with a properly maintained suspension... reminds me of a small BMW almost.

That'* pretty cool. That damage isn't all that bad, still great for a couple hundred bucks. Looks like she was taken care of b4 the damage was inflicted.

Nice ride. I always thought they were sharp cars. Very expensive in their day. Nice color, too.

i am actually having a problem with it :? it worked just fine right after i bought the car and then while i was cleaning out the interior the intsrument panel went dead (everything stopped working besides the tach). at the same time the VIC touchscreen now only displays this:

so i'm hoping it has to do with the intsrument panel problem since it happened at exactly the same time the cluster went dead. i checked all fuses so i know it'* not that. i found a guy on ebay that rebuilds these instrument panels for $129 and i think i might just try that and hope that the VIC starts working again like it should.

Did you check the back connections? some of them might be oxidized or not even plugged in
