question for the parents
allright...my friend Brittany had to have her car repaired in a town somewhat far away..its supposed to be done monday..her parents are bein a-holes and telling her its her problem to go pick it up...she doesnt really have that many friends so i told her id help her out....until my mom wouldnt let me!!
here would be the situation...we ride in her dads Mustang(sorta hers) to the town of Springfield,MO...which is a fairly bustling place...then she drives the Stang home and i drive her Eclipse...does that sound so horrible?
the town is like a little over an hour away, and yeah theres some hefty traffic from time to time but its nothing i cant handle, heck i think i do better in traffic than my mom does! she just kinda freaks out i at least keep a decent head on my shoulders....
im 17, have been driving on and off since i was about 13, drove tons when i had my permit, consider myself an experienced driver, just about every situation you can be in while driving ive been in and lived to tell about it.
mom says "theres to much traffic and you dont need to be responsible for someone elses car"
if you were my parent what would you do?

Their insurance may not cover you unless you have the policyholders permission to drive the car. If you wreck the car and her parents didn't say you could drive her car back you and your parents insurance would be liable for damages.

haha...my mom is the lienient one if my dad had his way id never leave the house and wed go fishing round the clock....and be sure and keep and big space between the "girl" and "friend" .....i guess since she would be drivng to i should mention that shes 16 and a very cautious, safe, yadda yadda, driver.....i tried to convince her to let me drive the Stang on the way back...she said no...told ya she was cautious :P ...but the Eclipse would be fun...its a GS-T so its not the scum of the Eclipse world.

yeah im sure they probly would...just out of curiousity would it have to be like written permission? cause they could just say they never said it if something did happen.....but that matters not to me at this point...mommy would let her baby venture more than 10 miles from the nest(slight exaggeration but not too far off)

It probably wouldn't hurt if you don't think they are trustworthy. You just have to decide what is the right thing to do. What would the parental consequences be if you helped your friend and got caught?

Well, as a parent I have to say that I'm sure your parents have good reasons for what they do (usually). My son didn't get full driving privileges when he got his license because his dad had died in a violent auto accident and I was scared- so I made sure he had plenty of practice before he ventured off too far. Were we lived at the time the speed limit was 50 mph on every road. And there were big, steep dropoffs. My son is a pretty good driver if you don't think about the light post that he hit recently
Only you can decide what is right for you to do.
