Default Enable Sound

All of a sudden the speakers on my computer decided they no longer want to work. I checked all conections and they are good. The light is on, on the speakers so I know they are fine. There must be something in the control panel to enable them. I don't know why they arn't working, they where fine yesterday. :? The computer is a Hp pavilion a282n with Windows XP Home.

go to start>settings>control panel and then "sounds and audio devices"

check to make sure it isnt muted and that its turned up on the first tab.

check the speaker volume on the first tab, as well as the advanced settings to make sure the right type of speakers are selected.

then head over to the audio tab and check the settings there as well.

do you have a sound card or are you using onboard sound?

oh yeah you might as well reinstall the OS while you are at it and put a real firewall on there and run mozilla to avoid any future spyware issues....

Those are awesome programs for this purpose, I use them on mine simply because the University demanded it. In his case, I doubt though that he'll need to reinstall the OS, once he gets rid of the spyware, he'll be in good shape. Definitely install Firefox or Opera on your machine though, safest browsers out there today.
